Sometimes engine dies

2005 sl500
vehicle runs great......BUT..
every so often after running at speed, I stop for a traffic light and engine stumbles and sometimes dies.
doesn't happen every time, but often.
bad fuel ?
Appreciate any thoughts.

There should be an error logged, no? Do you have an OBD2 reader?

if you have a mess of fault codes in there, delete all, then on the next fail, immediately run that foxwell thing. that way you have a focused fault result
good luck !

It's easy to think of causes for an engine shutting off unexpectedly. In this case you need to consider which ones correlate with the particular circumstances. For me, there simply isn't enough detail in the first post.

That confuses me. The air cleaner cover is the engine cover. Even if it's loose, air is able to enter the intake, just possibly dirty. How does that shut down the engine?

Mass air

Sliding around sending different amounts of air to the mass air sensor.......but whatever.
properly reinstalling the cover fixed the problem........
