Help with R230 SL 55 AMG (2004) grill
Hi I am new to this forum.
The other day, I was unfortunate because I was parked outside a friend's house and a small SUV backed up and hit and run my 2004 Mercedes SL 55 AMG. (VIN # WDB2304741F079384 )
We didn't get the license plate yet, but we know the car because the owner lives in the area... Hopefully we will find and confront the owner..
The damage to my car was only to the Grill Emblem of the SL. Fortunately this was the only part broken and there was no damage to hood, bumper, lights or anything inside the engine.
The part number is 2308801083. It is quite expensive...
I also found part 2308800583 which seems to be exactly the same but is 30-40% cheaper.
I called the dealer and they told me the first part is for SL 55 , while the second part is for SL V8.
On the photos they look 100% the same.
Can you please help me if you know about the differences and if the second part will be ok for my car ?
Thanks !!
Makis

I found this used part 2308801083 on Ebay.
But if you look closely at the back photo of this part, there is a sticker with the 2308801083 part printed and on the plastic the actual part number is 2308800583...
Which makes it even more confusing...
So is the 2308801083 suitable for the SL 55 AMG
and the 2308800583 for the SL 500 ?
Or is it the same part ??
The reason I am insisting on this, is because the 1083 part sells for $670 , while the 0583 part sells for around half that price...

I did not check your price and the AMG price as you didn't give me your super secret VIN displayed on your windscreen
I say that sellers lookup the part, see it as AMG, then price it higher

2004 Mercedes SL 55 AMG. (VIN # WDB2304741F079384 )
Today I decided to remove the broken part... and guess what..
The part number was A2308800583 (the cheaper part from the SL 500, even though my car is SL 55)
So I am guessing, Mercedes is pricing out the consumer.. If you bought the expensive SL 55, you pay more for the same part... If you bought the cheaper SL 500, you pay less for the same part..
Kind of like staying in a hotel, and the Guest staying in the Suite paying $8 for a bottle of water from the minibar, while a Guest staying a regular room paying just $3 for the same bottle of water...

My VIN was available in my original post.. No reason not to share it with you, definitely not a secret ;-)
