2009 R230 - SL550
Please explain (like I知 5) key tracks and memory blocks

Recently acquired a second R230 2009 SL550 from an MB dealer. It has keyless-go (KG) option and came with 1 key fob which works with doors and in ignition switch but not KG. Dealer ordered 2 additional brand new key fobs (came in bags marked 4 and 5) delivered direct to me from MB parts depot assuring me that they would work with KG out of the box. Of course, now I have 3 fobs without KG. I know how it should work as I have another 2009 R230 with KG which works perfectly.

Based on my reading, I surmise the problem is that fobs 1 & 2 were lost/kept by previous owner and another fob (#3) was acquired. I think that only key tracks in memory blocks 1 & 2 can work with KG. I know I can assign key (tracks) to memory blocks with my DAS software, but I want to understand things before I start tinkering.

Can someone explain precisely what is meant by the terms key tracks and memory blocks in this context and why with each memory block DAS shows there are eight possible key tracks?

Enquiring minds want to know, and all that. Thanks in advance.
