I was driving my 04 SL 600, the transmission started to slip from first to second gear. In my diagnostic search the fault code says that the N15/3 ETC unit is defective. Code P2013/P2010. How do I determine that this part needs to be replaced?

This means that your ETC lost coding
probably corrosion inside or something else
What I could do is if you get a ebay used cheap replacement is
virginize it by remote, then adapt it to your vin and code it
as a BenznInja Clubmember, this would be all included and cost 0
You need a good working Xentry and a hardware
if you don't have this and use a cheap Icarsoft or similar, forget it
you are good for the Dealer, spend plenty of $$$ or find a guy that would sell you a virginized used unit from ebay he would program for you
that will cost you a little less than plenty of $$$

Maybe the TCU has been contaminated from a failed pilot bushing?
I’d open up the TCU and see if there is fluid in there.
Here’s a link I found in another thread showing where the TCU is located.

I don't believe that the external TCU for the 722.6 transmissions are VIN coded. As pointed out above, typical issue is oil contamination from a bad pilot bushing. I would pull the TCU, open it, and check for oil. If you get lucky, you might be able to get by with just cleaning it. Otherwise, get an SL600 module off of ebay and replace it. You shouldn't have to code, but you will want to clear the adaptation and run an adaptation drive cycle. Of course, if you have oil contamination you will need to replace the pilot bushing as well.

The diagram was pretty clear and I can handle the removal and cleaning process. I will probably need your assistance with the adaptation part, I am still trying to learn the ins and outs with this Star System. I appreciate your input.

Even if you don’t find fluid inside the TCM, you still need to check if the pilot bushing is leaking.

just called that a plug lol
so with your EGS52, it should be possible to replace it without making virgin
just use the "takeover" function to copy the coding from old

So replacing this unit is going to be necessary in addressing this issue. I am asking to determine if there could be anything creating this issue outside of the control unit itself. I was also going to replace the filter, electric connector, gasket and fluid.

if you want to do a swap-to-find repair, order one on ebay, replace it as I explained, if not fixed, return it

Yeah, I understand. I just want to make sure there isn’t anything I need to or could do prior to. I have actually found one on EBAY. I will follow your directions, install and let you know what happens. Thanks
