Lately, I kept getting the trunk partition error message when tried to open the top. Turned out, trunk partition sensor was bad. The trace on the PCB broke. I removed PCB, unsolder the chip, fixed the trace and everything worked again.
If your sensor is bad, it could also be the chip which you can buy for $4 on Mouser.
I didn’t want to buy a used latch because who know what condition it is in.
