Need help with wiring diagram for interior motion sensor and rear SAM

I'm thinking of retrofitting the interior motion sensor (identified as A26/14) which goes inside the armrest. The sensor connects with three wires and I'm having trouble determining their function. I was expecting to see four wires (+, -, CAN H, CAN L), so I'm totally confused about how this thing works. The diagram shows that it connects to "U2" at the rear SAM. I'm looking for help identifying the function of the three wires (Red, Black, Green) and understanding what "U2" is and its location.

It looks like the interior motion sensor (A26/14) and the towing sensor (B33) are connected to the body CAN:

The 'U' numbers are application specific identifiers. If you look in the legend, it will show you which version(s) it applies to. I don't believe that the motion sensor was used in the US, so U2 is likely non-US models or something like that. The dashed line around A26/14 and the connector show what applies only to the U2 versions.

CAN communication is only between modules. The motion sensor and towing sensors do not have direct CAN bus connections. Their values will be available on the body CAN bus from the rear SAM, but they don't have CAN built in.

Thanks for the input. I didn’t realize the SAM itself is monitoring the feedback from the sensor. Hopefully I can just connect the sensor to those three pins on the SAM and then code the SAM in STAR to add the feature.

For anyone interested in doing this, theses are the part numbers I’ve compiled so far. I have no idea if this will work. One user in another thread from years ago claimed they retrofitted the sensor successfully but didn’t give any details.

Sensor: 2308700110
Connector for the sensor: 0285458428
Wires that connect the sensor connector (3 are needed): 0005404505
Wires to add to the 20 pin connector at the rear sam (3 are needed): 0005404605
20 pin connector for the SAM, it’s cheap so I might get one to experiment with before messing with the one on my car: 2205451928

And the roof switch that lets you turn the sensor on/off, and has the power folding mirror function (which is how I started down this road in the first place): 2308215951647167

I’m thinking about retrofitting power folding mirrors and all of the roof switches I’ve seen with the mirror folding button also have the button for the interior motion sensor, so I’m thinking for around $150 in extra parts, why not?

Were you successful? I added power folding mirrors and I also have this button now.

I haven’t, but I still plan to eventually.

I’m the same guy who replied to you with the pictures of the console hinge/wiring on facebook btw.

LOL, that's awesome!

I went ahead and ordered the connectors (actually pigtails) and the module from eBay. Less than $100 shipped! Totally worth it just to try it out. using your part numbers posted above. Thank you or those!

I also have a 2005 SL65 by the way.

nice! I’m planning a complete sound system update this summer and was considering getting this done while everything was apart.

I just popped open the sensor. It has a LIN transceiver on-board.

"The Local Interconnect Network (LIN) is a low-cost, single-wire serial protocol that allows communication between components in modern vehicles. It's based on the Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter (UART) and is designed for small automotive networks that don't require high data rates. LIN is a cost-effective alternative to the CAN protocol, and is used for applications that aren't time critical or don't need extreme fault tolerance."

Also found this:

I have everything I need to install it now. I may install it this weekend if I have time and the motivation to rip the interior pieces out.

After much frustration trying to fish wiring through the center console lid, and more frustration with having purchased a dead sensor, I finally got it working.

Tips:
- Remove the entire console from the car in order to remove the lid from the console
- Use a low-E guitar string to fish each wire through individually, DO NOT pre-solder the connectors, they will not feed thru the console lid!
- I used heat shrink tubing to secure the wire to the guitar string to pull it thru
- Use DAS to configure the sensor as present

WIS Wiring Diagram from motion sensor to rear SAM:

Wiring added to console lid. I made the wiring 4 feet in length (1.2meters):

Pins 12, 13 an 14 of the rear SAM's connector where the sensor wires connect:

How to use DAS to enable the sensor (ATA Interior Motion):

Mine was initially configured for a towing sensor only:

Forsome reason, the disable button just blinks at me: https://mbworld.org/forums/attachmen...1&d=1714583435
