Manual Trunk/Boot Release Problem

I've had a non working PSE pump so been using the manual key opening process for the Trunk/Boot.

It's just stopped working. Manual key still turns although its gone quite stiff, but after turning, the boot release lever isn't doing anything. It moves but feels loose and isn't engaging the mechanism release. I need to get back into the boot to reconnect my trickle charger. Any ideas?

Based on other threads I’ve seen, I bet you will need to break out the third brake light and reach through the hole to open the latch.

The handle does not normally engage the release lever, so having no resistance is normal until the key is turned fully CCW (looking at the lock). I would try to get some WD-40 in it or use a lock deicer if it is possibly frozen. If you can get the lock mechanism freed up, you should be able to open it without damaging your car. It is possible the the release rod is detached, but my money is on the lock mechanism.

Someone, I think Rudeney, drilled a hole behind the license plate to get to the rod. Using a grommet you can seal it afterwards. Sounds like a better idea to me than breaking the 3rd brake light.

Try all options.
I have issues with the trunk latch sometimes, but my key fob trunk release will open it every time. Have you tried that?

That won’t work if his PSE is dead.

Yes agreed lol!

I have just managed to open it using the key again. It’s got a lot harder and stiffer to turn the key so something is going on, but at least I’ve managed to get the trickle charger on so I’ve no panic.

Thank you to all, for the advice and suggestions.

Glad that you got it open without having to damage your car. I would pull that lock out and clean and lube it. And don't forget to reattach the rod when you reinstall.
