Tiny rubber pad in front latch

I noticed that I lost a tiny rubber buffer that sits on the front latch. It’s not drawn or listed as a separate piece in EPC. The piece has two protrusions that are to be pulled through two holes in the metal part it protects. One could easily conjure up a make-do, but I would prefer to buy two originals. A proper naming and (even better) a part number would be most helpful!

If the comprehensive list of R230 parts does not have it - you might be stuck... any way to improvise maybe?

Sure thing. I’d like to keep things original where I can. Plus I wonder if the part is used elsewhere.

It looks like that piece is only available as part of the assembly 2307900971 (and goes for about $340)
https://www.mbdirectparts.com/oem-pa...bly-2307900971

I found a used one on EBAY for $128 (with free worldwide shipping) that seems to have 2 reasonable (better?) examples of the part you seek.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/03-12-Merce...QAAOSwe2Rga~qC I have bought from this seller before (and I upgraded 2 SL65s to 3-spoke wheels with paddle shifters for him as well) so I can recommend them.

I realize $128 is a ridiculous amount to spend on 2 pieces of rubber (that should cost $4 each), but this is the only option I found (other than making your own) ... hmmm ... are they 3-d printing rubber yet?

Cheers,
Chris

or, in a pinch you could look through a catalog of generic push-in/pull-through rubber bumpers and see if you could make do with 2 pieces that pull though (to replace the single part that is missing while utilizing the 2 mounting holes).
here are some examples (if you scroll down, they list them by size, etc) perhaps something like "type F" or "type T" ?

Cheers,
Chris

Yes of course, you’re spot on. That is what I’ll have to do. Buying the whole system would be insane, if only because one shouldn’t be fixing things that ain’t broken. Thanks, mate!

One idea might be to buy the whole assembly second hand, fit the whole assembly, cut some replacement rubber to fit your original and sell it back on? As long as you’re honest in the description that it’s a replaced rubber I’m sure someone would buy it and you’d get a majority of your money back?

I just looked at the part on my SLK32 (R170) that does the same function and the part looks the same which got me to thinking that this may be used in a variety of Mercedes top latching setups ,,, and it would be worth looking in the EPC to see if it might be a separate part in one of those other applications ...

Thanks for the suggestion, but as much as I cling to originality, I don’t want to invite gremlins to a perfectly working vario roof. Without a particular case in mind, one sometimes wonders how many of the problems dealt with in this forum were induced by tinkering...

Yes, the thought occurred to me too. Since this is a hobby, I might allow myself spending some time on checking a few models in EPC.

Fairly cheap and easy to print out of TPU. They are fairly soft, so TPU should be close on hardness and would look the same as the originals.
