If you can drop the trunk lid then the hydraulic trunk supports are shot. And please correct me if I am wrong when they have lost their strength they don't help assist the opposite side of the trunk that has to come up when lowering the top.

Those two gas struts have no function in the reverse opening of the trunk lid. There is third gas strut, next to the right rear lamp housing, that aids the hydraulic cilinder on the left.

Hi Mike, I saw that you have knowledge about the cabrio system at Mercedes SL 3700 year after 2003, I have a problem and I would like to know if you could help me with an answer. When I want to convert the car a fuse burns that is located in the compartment of which you talked about, rear back passanger side. I would be very grateful if you could help me with some information.
