Replacing PSE Pump on 07 SL550

Hey All-
So recently found out I need to replace the PSE Pump on my sl550. Was quoted at $2500 for parts and labor. It seems easy enough to replace on my own, however I am concerned about the programming aspect. Do you think it is worth replacing myself and then asking MB to program? Any other ideas?
Thanks!

What are the symptoms?

Is it just completely dead?

Does it keep blowing the fuse?

I would ask the dealer what the Mercedes flat rate is for replacing the pump (spoiler alert, it is .7 hours). I understand that they will have some diagnostic time, etc, but $1300 labor for that job should get someone put in jail for theft.

You can get a new Mercedes pump for around $850, and there are repair options as well. Even if you go the new route, you can probably get a couple hundred for your used pump on ebay. This is assuming that you are blowing fuses or have zero PSE function. You can lose any element of the PSE system for reasons other than the pump. Since it is an expensive item, you want to make sure that it is properly diagnosed before just replacing the pump. I think that the pump will function fine out of the box, shouldn't require any programming.

A broken impeller is totally fixable.
