Hey all, just thought I'd show the USB charger port that I installed. I couldn't put one in the center console blank switch positions as I have parktronic and there is a circuit board underneath those blanks, so I put one here. Tapped the wires onto the cigarette lighter wires. I like that it is lighted and has a touch on/off button. Some may not like this as you need to cut the vinyl and drill a big hole in the panel.
Here's an Amazon link if you're interested.
Loo great!! How did you get that panel off and how hard was it
Easy to get the panel off. See the last picture, it's just held on by those clips sticking up. Start at the rear of the of the panel and pry up with a plastic tool, when you've got the last one's at the front, pull the panel toward the back of the car.
Yes, there is enough room there. If you were to install the same one I did, you would need to put it near the same place, maybe slightly more forward. Due to the length of the charger sticking out, I did have to jimmy the panel in there slightly when re-installed it. If you have to take the panel off again, you just need to keep in mind that the charger is sticking out in back and to be careful when taking the panel out.
2005 R 230 SL350 (M112 3.7). Sold the 1966 W113 230SL recently
Thanks. If I ever get ‘round to it, an inline (dis)connector seems like a good idea. And I wonder if a passengers’ leg would interfere with inserted usb plugs (and vice versa, in a bad scenario).
My wife is about 1.72 meters tall and it doesn't interfere with her legs, she likes it there so that's what counts !! There really isn't another practical place to put it.
Latemodel21 installed it at the cigarette lighter. A kit w/ plug is to be had on amazon.
Funny I just reinspected my car it see about your panel install and low n behold there is a usb plug pushed up under the bottom. I just pulled it out.
I think I’m in for more surprises once the tech replaces the (Kenwood excelon) replacement with the JVC 750
