2009 SL550 trunk opening issues

Having problems with the trunk lid automatic opening. The remote trunk release works and the latch handle works but the lid does not rise.
the roof still works perfectly. Also with the top down it does not raise up when you open the trunk lid manually. Everything worked and then all of a sudden didnt.
I checked fuses i thought may be the issue but all is good. Also I hear no sound of a motor or pump then i pull the latch handle Any suggestions?

Possibly the PSE pump (door locks) are the easiest way to figure that out if they work it’s not that.

@BenzNinja , it does sound suspiciously similar to what happened to me ;-)

@NHSl550 , if you don't connect Xentry, you'll never know what's the cause...

2005 SL500 2006 Toyota Avalon (J7) 2008 Toyota Sienna (used for dragging my camper)
I have a 2005 SL 500. I have to use the remote trunk open, then manually pull the lid up a little, it will not open, then use the remote again, then it opens. I don't have a diagnostic tool Any recommendations other than go to the dealer or buy the diagnostic tool? Thank you

The latch doesn't work either... but the top functions and the trunk lid shuts itself when I close the trunk...

*update* it seems relevant that the trunk is heavy to open and closes (falls down) easily. I suspected struts when I first noticed this, then starting reading here and don't want to approach my new ownership of this car with the spray parts and pray method. Email sent to BenzNinja...

My trunk lid was heavy as hell and hard to lift open, i bought replacement lift struts and it is way better now. You have to make sure you get the right ones for the car; some have the second red button inside the trunk lid and some do not... I forget the purpose of the second button but anyhow the struts are cheap and pretty easy to replace.

Okay, this sounds solid, thank you. *NEWBIE ALERT* does my car have remote trunk locking? I don't know... I can click the remote and unlock the trunk... is that remote trunk locking? It seems to close manually... **end newbie alert***

*newbie update* looked at existing struts and there is visible oil leakage, took part number off existing struts and ordered. Hopefully I'm fixed. Thank you!

2005 R 230 SL350 (M112 3.7). Sold the 1966 W113 230SL recently
I think you’re a little confused about the option that some R230’s have: a power driven trunk lid.

Not confused, don't have it, ordered correct struts... hope that is/was my problem. Will report back after I install the replacement struts. Thank you.

The button it refers to is to raise the roof when it is retracted and have access to the space under it

Ah... I don't think I have that. Only had the car a week, still finding my way around.

*newbie update* Put the top down, pushed the red button, experienced this feature. Odd thing is I got the part number for the replacement struts from the STRUTS ON THE CAR... but they said not for cars with this feature...

Guess I'll inspect the new ones closely and if they match the old ones put them in and try it... seems odd though... am I missing something???

Thank you,

You are confusing two features. The load assist that lifts the roof for trunk access is standard equipment. The power trunk closing is an option and does change the struts required. If you ordered by P/N, you should be good.
