Roof sluggish
Any advice on maintaining my roof? If works fine, but is sluggish and stalls if I open it using the key without the car running. I suspect my accessory battery may be getting old, possibly?? I am mostly interested in how I can do any preventative maintenance on it.

Not too many of us seem to be successful with controlling the roof via the infrared in the keyfob. Sluggishness in the roof motion can have several causes. Is the whole motion slow, or do you have specific pain-points?

Good question. Again, the roof works fine. It’s just slower and freezes at an ANY point during its operation WHEN using the keyfob. When the car is running it behaves normally. This is why I assume maybe it’s the battery, but that keyfob ‘trick’ is not a big deal to me. I just thought it may be a symptom of something more.

If it’s just the keyfob that’s moving the roof slowly or not at all, you have no problem. You might want to turn the ignition on without the engine running and try the roof motion. If the roof works at almost 100% speed, start your engine, smile and take her for a good spin.

As for preventative maintenance, check oil level in pump (putting a mark on the plastic container might be an idea for future reference), lubricate all hinges you can find and check the black velvet strips that run along the top of the side windows for oil. Stick your finger along the top of the strips for checking. If you find oil on those, you’ll be in a notorious alarm phase. In that case read everything about it on this forum.

I don't think you have an issue. Voltage will be lower without the engine running, so the pump is not quite as powerful. Also, the key fob method tends to lose signal easily causes pauses in operation. If it works fine using the switch with the engine running, don't give it a second thought.

In stead of using the key fob for operating the roof, you may want to look into a SmartTop module. Plenty info on forums and on their own site. Single touch roof control in the car and radio signal roof control with the key from without (no need to hold the key close to the door handle).

SOLVED: Key Fob roof opening
It's not the car. It's the batteries in the key that causes opening via the key fob to be sporatic. Signal isnt strong enough as earlier stated. Replacing the batteries solved this for me. Now it opens and even closes from the key fob.
