- buy WIS/EPC/ASRA from ebay and do the work yourself
- buy XENTRY by searching this site for the correct source and do the work yourself

Help us out with more information about your mechanic. Dealer, MB experienced Indy, local gas station guy? Broad spectrum out there.
your solution leads me to suspect Dealer.
what tests were done? What codes do you have? Battery condition? MB systems will turn off features if batteries are low.
The more you can provide, the better the forum will work for you.

Took it to a European mechanic who I trust
found codes n module
airscarf 9195 left airscarf open circuit
9199 right airscarf open circuit
need both headrests assembly’s to repair 1700 each
battery’s are in great shape and charged

The discount dealers have the headrests for around $530/each. Let's be generous and say $700 with tax and shipping. $1k/side seems a bit steep for installation. I haven't worked on the air scarf headrests, but conventional are about a 15 min job to pull out and put back in.
