SL/R230: Leak at C pillar drain tube

Leak at C pillar drain tube
2003 SL55. Water runs down the outside of the drain tube inside the trunk. The tube is not clogged. I have searched forums and parts suppliers and have found no information about this type of leak or what the hose looks like. The end of the tube seems to be held in place by 2 nuts but I don't know what it looks like at the tube end. Does anyone have a photo of the upper end of that tube? Do you have experience with this type of leak?
I have been all through the seal leaks at the bottom of the glass and below the C pillars. I resealed those. Now, it seems just this one leak with water running down the drain tube. It seems to me that the water that runs from the glass seal and the pillar funnel into the space just below and to the inside corner of the pillar, where the seals come together. When I look into that corner, I see a hole that obviously allows the water to enter the top of the drain tube.
I don't know how that tube attaches to the sheet metal around the hole. I wonder if I can just pull the tube off or if I need to remove the screw nuts. It seems the screws somehow locate the tube in place. I think I need to apply sealant to the end or upper lip of that tube.
