Smile Who's the new guy?? :-)

Hey guys - just bought a 2007 SL55 AMG with 11k miles. Nice car. Would like to know from you veterans of this forum and with SL55 AMG ownership, the ins, and outs. What to look for and what to look out for. I'm ready, hit me!

Wow what a great car! With this low mileage the car was not driven much, which is not good for electrical systems and batteries. How old are your 2? Keep a tender on the trunk battery when not driven weekly. Tires, how old are your tires? Tires failing are costly if wheels get damaged. Peace of mind on new rubber too. These big v8s burn up mounts, check and replace if needed. ABC fluid should be green and at proper level. Pentosin has a shelf life. I flushed and changed filter as maintenance along with the pump dampener.
Drive and enjoy, pictures?

You didn't mention how much wrenching you can do yourself. If you are fairly competent, get a good Mercedes specific diagnostic system. If not, find a good indy mechanic specializing in Mercedes that you can trust.

Not wrenchy since my '68 Camaro some 40+ years ago. When I inquire to indy MB mechanics, will they know what an MB specific diagnostic system test is? How could I research that and better understand it? Thank you for your help

So far, crossing my fingers, things are pretty tight. A couple of things is the radio is twitchy, sometimes works sometimes not. Seems like the car has to be driven for 10+ minutes before the radio or CD work, and then sometimes it will not turn back on after the car has been turned off (grocery run, etc). The other is the cruise control which has a twitchy issue too.
Haven't looked at batteries yet, no idea of age. Good info and I will check. Why keep a tender on the trunk battery? Why two batteries anyway (can you tell I'm an old guy who is a novice). Same on the tires. My goal is to replace the current HRE three-piece forged wheels and tires, with an original set of AMG wheels and tires.
I'll send some pics soon

one battery is for the car (starter battery) and the other is for the electronics (in the trunk). Radio and CD don't work probably because the battery in the trunk is "dead"/offline and needs time to come back online. Do you get any warnings when starting the car? (electric consumer offline)?

This is a sign that the battery needs to be replaced. replace both the front and back battery and keep a trickle charger on the battery in the trunk when not driven.

when the trunk battery "dies", you won't be able to unlock the car by pushing the button on the remote- you will need to actually remove the key and unlock it manually. so sooner you replace the batteries, the better. one of the first maintenance items that usually needs to be addressed

That probably describes 90% of R230's = "Runs and drives, but has a couple of issues".

Welcome to the forum.

Not lots better. ABC issues , top issues, and electrical issues. The door hinges are very sturdy though.
oh yes brittle plastic interior stuff.
