Sweet Ride and I love the Chestnut wood with Stone interior! I just don't like the upkeep on the light interior.

I have ordered a new SL600 in Aegean Blue. The time for changes is rapidly approaching I am agonizing over the Sport Package. I love the sport package with the Black exterior but I am very concerned about how the black lower body plastic on the rear bumper between the exhausts will look with an Aegean Blue bumper. The black plastic against the black body is fine, but what are your thoughts about that black plastic against the Aegean Blue. I also have similar concerns about the wire grates in the front as well. Finally, I am thinking about the Stone interior but now the car has been spec'd with an all Black interior. I am in Northern California so it does not get as hot as other parts of the country.

If anybody had any thoughts about the sport package and interior it would be great.

Thanks,

As far as the stone interior goes, this is my fourth mercedes and I had this similiar color in all of mine. Some consider it high maintenance, but black to me would be high high maintenance with the dust etc.. that would accumulate on it. I have a Jack Russell Terrier that is brown/white, black would never work for me, this works great, you don't notice anything. I have had a lot of compliments on the stone interior too. The sport package with the blue color should be excellent too. The wire grates on the front will look great too, it would be black plastic there without the amg package. I would definately get the amg package, no question about it.

Go to brumos.com this is the dealer I bought from on their website click brumosmercedes.com New and Preowned Inventory, search for SL and you will see pictures of various sl's some with amg package and colored other than black. This should help you.

Blue looks really nice on the SL and i not as common as other colours. Here are some pics of a blue SL from this board I think, which has the Carlsson body kit and wheels, which might be an alternative to the AMG kit.

Thanks for the pictures. You are right, the Aegean blue is very uncommon because people are afraid as the chip looks very green, but the color is not. If you see the color in person on the SL it is absolutely gorgeous. I think it will look really hot with the all black interior. Probably not going with the sports package but have ordered the staggered wheels which look really nice.

Hello Stephen K,

Very nice pictures. I can see in your "strait rear shot photo" that the black near the exhaust is solid black plastic and not black plastic wire mesh. In all previous AMG sport package photos that I have seen for the SL, the fore mentioned area had black wire mesh (unless body kit was installed). Do you or anyone else know if the solid black plastic is new for 2005? Or am I mistaken in some way?

Thanks to everyone who responds.

I just decided to order the sports package. It says the sports package comes with the steering wheel shift buttons. I have a 2004 SL55 now and it has an all black leather steering wheel with the shifter buttons on the back of the wheel. The front of the wheel has little "+" and "-" emblems showing where the shifter buttons are on the back of the wheel.

I looked at your car and the steering wheel has wood and I do not see the little plus and minus signs on the front of your steering wheel. Do you have the shifter buttons on your steering wheel and are they located on the back?

Please let me know.

It is not black wire mesh for sure, but the material is definately different from the body. It is a rougher feeling finish, not like the smooth body finish. If you look at my photo I posted originally on my website from the back left corner you can see the difference on the back of the car by the exhaust pipes. I looked at some pictures on the web from the dealer I bought my car from, they have a lighter colored car for sale with the same black on the back of the car. Go to brumos.com and look under new and preowned inventory, they post some nice pictures too.

I have the shift buttons located on the back of the steering wheel on the left and right side just below where the wood ends on the upper part of the steering wheel. The +/- buttons on the front have nothing to do with the shifting buttons they are for the volume. If you want to see a picture of the steering wheel just let me know.
