SL/R230: ABC fluid level

ABC fluid level
The red ABC drive carefully message appeared on dash of my 2005 SL600. First thing I did was shut off engine and check ABC fluid level. It was low on the "engine off" side of dip stick. I added fluid until it was full. Drove the car with out the red ABC warning appearing everything seems fine. Car raises and lowers. After test drive I checked the ABC fluid with the engine on and looked at the "engine on" side of dip stick. It shows low. I turn the car off and checked the dip stick on the "engine off" side and it shows full. No fluid son floor or anywhere. Does anyone know why this is? I don't know which side of dip stick to believe!

Although I am a newbie here as I have only owned my 2005 SL500 a week, I get the same thing. The suspension works and I did have to add just over a quart of fluid to mine as it was so low it barely registered on the dipstick
I did a ton of research and have determined that the front and or rear accumulator has failed. The diaphragm between the nitrogen and fluid had leaked. When they fail the system registers pressure spikes over certain road conditions like sharp bumps and potholes and flags the red warning then goes away. I had no stored coded either. I have a new set inbound. Both for just over $300.00. Dealer wanted $325 each It looks real easy to do with the hardest part is jacking up the car and removing the wheels..
