Exhaust Options?

Understanding exhaust tone is a personal preference, I'd like to massage little more growl from the SL, not looking for a cat-delete, straight pipe obnoxious drone. Interested in hearing what others here have done and how they have liked it, e.g. resonator delete and keeping rest of the system stock. Additionally, any users of any of the SuperSprint components?

https://www.supersprint.com/ww-en/su...30-sl-500.aspx

EDIT: Upon further study it appears stock system does not have a traditional resonator.

Hi, I'm looking for the same...any progress Bdevil82?

Thinking to delete resonators (or cats without 02 sensors), which are sitting after cats...

There are 2 AMG exhaust options. One is performance, and the other is more throaty.

SL 500 w/t M113 engine stock exhaust...

So,... one option to remove silencers before X-pipe or just replace rear mufflers with AMG SL 55 version....right?

AMG mufflers have dual tips.

If you cut the secondary cats your factory tune will suffer but it will be louder. Not to mention The fuel stink smell
A 5L SL could make the most power and sound louder but still somewhat refined by leaving the secondary cats and adding better flowing cross over section to remove a crippling restriction the factory hurt the performance and sound levels and also add a set of low back pressure mufflers

What the problem is with the exhaust system is one side of the exhaust at the merge is one pipe is crushed in half. Fixing it with a good quality cross over will improve the sound and improve performance

Thank You, Hary for proper answer.
I see now.
So, basically i need nicer x pipe, then connection tubes till rear mufflers.
Because I would like to look stock, not quad pipes stickin' out,
I've found these in mine neibourhood....
Cheers

Hi There .
Your car has plenty of grunt from the exhaust, its just silenced via the 2 rear back box. If you want some fun and have the most amazing noise when you are feeling good, I would recommend just using electric cut outs, they are cheap work, on a push of a remote, pretty simple to install and then you can close them with the remote and all is silenced once more !

Here is the install to help explain:

I get the direction with the cutouts. Sounds different. They could also be tied into the muffler for an A-B style sound with a direct thru flow internal pipe

TBH; for all the time and money I would’ve fixed the terrible choking exhaust issue of the X pipe directly upstream. It is losing HP/Tq the motor desperately needs and can also aide in a decent quality sound enhancement for whatever you choose behind it

To me, the SuperSprint X-pipe does not look much different than the stock setup. Has anyone actually installed the SuperSprint and how were the results?

My question is why did Mercedes do this to the exhaust if it looses HP and Torque?

They could have fitted an X-Pipe, or made the system more free-flowing, but chose to do this instead?

Love to hear any results of a modification to the weird join...

My guess is that MB sectioned the pipes with relief cuts and then joined them rather than just crushing two pipes together.
