I had both of my batteries replaced recently. The front battery of the car uses the key "switch" in the dash. The push button one on the shifter uses the one from the trunk. The shop gave me a bad one and not very many things would work that used the back battery, including the push button start, BUT it would start if I stuck the key in the dash and turned it.

Just something else to consider checking, trunk battery may be low.
