2005 SL500, My driver's window stopped working because the cable in the regulator got chewed up. I've installed a new regulator and it works smoothly but, the window stops 3 or 4 inches short of closing. I have tried the reset procedure to no avail. Can't see any obstruction. It's like the car thinks it is fully closed when it isn't. Suggestions?

If there is too much resistance, the motor will stop, see if you can double check free movement.

The door control module remembers the old position before you removed the motor. You'll need Xentry/DAS to desynchronize the motor first then relearn the position.

TRY TO RESET THE WINDOW. Lower the window hold the swich for ten seconds and then raise the window al the way up and hold for another ten seconds. The positions should reset.

Yeah, he tried the reset he already stated. Also, any extra resistance would stop it (my comment) but you should be able to see that...
Surely worth the down reset...
1. does it go down and stop "nicely"?
2. when it goes up and stops, does it stop in the same place each time
3. after it stops, what happens if you try to go up further?
4. what happens if you start the up cycle and pull up firmly on the window at the same time
5. are you trying this with the door open? worth a try

Thanks so much for the help. Problem is solved.
To answer the questions ..... It was stopping nicely in down position and yes it stopped at the same place going up ... about 3 to 4 inches from top. Nothing happened with trying to go up further with the switch or pulling by hand.
Here's what worked for me. I disconnected the rear trunk battery and let it sit for the rest of the day. This morning I reconnected the battery, did the window reset and all is good as new.
Thanks again for the help. You folks are the best.

I need to replace my regulator. How difficult was the job. It doesn't appear to be that difficult. My concern is to properly adjust the window within the regulator and position it correctly in relation to the door and roof. Did to replace with OEM part The only aftermarket part I can find was the same price as OEM. One last question, was the motor gear meshing with the regulator damaged or worn.

I didn't find the job difficult. I tore it down in about an hour +/-, verified what I needed, ordered the OEM part ( I've learned my lesson with aftermarket parts!) and put it back together in less than an hour.
I am in east Tn. My local dealer priced the regulator at $350. I googled the part # and found it at The Laredo, Tx. dealer for $235 + 17 shipping.
The motor and gear were fine. My problem was the cable was kinked and chewed up by the regulator.
Most of the bolts and nuts leave a mark where they were originally. I used that as a guide for reassembly. Window fit perfectly after reassembly.
Good luck with your project.

I resolved the problem my pulling the fuse for the door motor for five minutes, reinserted fuse then did the window reset procedure. Now everything works perfectly.
