All lights on dash but no cranking

HELLLLP!
My car won't start first thing in the morning after many attempts. Left for a random time it starts as.normal. no codes, new batteries, and when started all is perfect. Last 5 days this has happened and randomly over the last 2 months.

If the engine is not cranking, then I would check the usual suspects, such as wiring to starter solenoid and starter relay. Is there a signal from Passenger side front SAM to starter solenoid.

Some other members have suggested no cranking could also be due to the Crank position sensor, but check for power to starter solenoid first.

Jump pins 30 and 87 on the starter relay to test the starter circuit. Unlikely to be the relay or the starter motor though; starters don't fail intermittently, usually they crank slowly while drawing excessive current. If it spins normally then you might have a failing EIS module.

Russ, I have the same problem with 2019 c300. What was the solution?

thanks Randy

Don't know about Mercedes starters on older cars, but starters can fail intermittently or just completely all at once. Not saying that's the case here, but I wouldn't rule it out completely.

Sometimes hitting the starter with a hammer or wrench while someone else tries to start the engine may get it to work. In which case, that's exactly the problem and time to replace it.

I just bought a 97 318TI with 165K miles. Car has the spinning key ignition problem so It was not starting. Now that I have taken the housing off the steering column and I have it where I am able to turn the key 2 clicks, All lights come on on the dash but when I turn key to start it nothing happens, no cranking. I took the ignition switch off and have the key in tumbler with ring and turned 2 clicks so that steering wheel is unlocked then using a screwdriver manually turning ignition switch, and again my dash lights all come on but nothing when I turn to start it. Since its a manual I tried push starting it and it almost started but didn't so I put a charger on the battery and tried again and it started. I drove it for about 45 min, it ran fine then I turned it off (with the screwdriver) and tried starting it again and it cranked but did not start the first time so I tried a second time (still using a screwdriver to turn ignition switch) and the second time it started. when I tried again to start it about an hour later its back to not starting and not cranking. I tried a different ignition switch and no change. since it started by push starting I am guessing that the problem is in the starting system and not a key chip or immobilizer issue, does that sound right? Is there a way I can test the starter? I don't even see the starter, is it in a not visible location on this car? I know the car has the spinning key ignition problem, but this seems like a separate issue or related? are there any specific relays or fuses I should check or any other ideas?

I just had a similar problem and fully charged it overnight through the consumer battery and now all is fine, but that may not be as on yours.

@yovenim you are describing an almost dead battery that isn't holding a charge. New or not, if it was ever left to drain down, it's likely toast.
