It is a one time charge. Get in touch with Peter and he can give you all the details. You will be very happy! Gene

Or start with one of the new generation scanners Jetta mentioned, for a fraction of the cost. They'll do 90% of what you're likely to need.

Not dissing the Ninj here, but there are other practical options out there. It's not practical to run an R230 without a good scanner

Ok Tom what model would you suggest to do 90% what DAS can do. What is the missing 10 percent. Because as I read above, all kinds of codes come out of those things but none get you to the root of the Problem. For example, my 84 Sl500 air bags not working go to garage immediately. Went to the Indy with the Autel model at the top of the heap. It told him to start replacing the Gas Pedal. Huh. Yeah Gene look at the screen. One session with Peter in remote control cleared a communication error in 15 minutes. So if I used the INdy's information I most likely would be on the Parts Chasing Train.. And the cost savings with Peter's service more than pays for itself in spades in one event. And more to mention all the other module updates he has installed in my car. No charge. . You experts with lots of experience with these cars may give you the confidence you can troubleshoot issues with out DAS. But those of us want to stay clear of a Dealership or being ripped off by an Indy gives us the information we need to be able to afford these cars. Gene
I am really interested in what is contained in the 10 Percent.

Ok guys, thanks for sharing your experience on this, from my point of view, if you know well these cars systems with 90% you may get to a point where there are decision forks and a little bit of tinkering. It is like getting a clue to solve a complex issue..! Experience, skills and the clues will get you to the bottom! Also helps when the vehicle in question is not a daily need since you may have another vehicle, so there is ample time for tinkering! On this issue, I am going to separate one suspect..the pedal position sensor...then measure the ohms on rotation and see if there is any discontinuity. Now my question is Gene, will Benz Ninja will take you directly to the failed hardware? Or give you clues?

I had a parasitic drain and Peter identified the Alarm horn. But to get a better answer talking to Peter would be a really good idea of the DAS capabilities. Gene .

The comparison is a bit invidious. DAS is way more comprehensive and detailed than any scanner. DAS will give you procedures for testing and fault finding and links to EPC and WIS (which are both available anyway for peanuts on eBay, or free probably if you know where to look). I don't think you can adapt new modules like the EIS and TCU with something like a Foxwell.

I will certainly get one of the turnkey clone systems from eBay or Ali should I feel the need. So far, haven't needed it, which comes back to the OP's original question, which way to go to look at what's causing a specific issue? A Foxwell or Autel is the logical choice for starters.

Note I said the scanner will do most of what he is likely to need, and most home mechanics too, and not that it comes close to a full STAR system.

On independent MB mechanics, surely the least anyone should expect is that they would have a STAR system and understand how to use it.

There is no attempt on my part to make an owner feel bad they don't have a DAS system. While I did ask what the other systems can not do, comparing them is a logical way of understanding their limitations if any.. I also understand it is not an easy task to learn and use DAS. Personally it is too complicated for the mind. So when I mention BenzNinja Service I receive not only a superior system but a service from an expert. Nothing beats that for the owner without lots of experience or being a mechanic. One thing I would caution is buying a multiplexer on ebay. Most don't work. Don't waste your money. The key is to obtain a multiplexer like the ones BenzNinja recommends. They work! All of this depends on your own level of expertise about these cars. Expertise I am willing to state I have very little. I think many here are in the same boat. So one has to ask do I want a scanner or do I want the best diagnostic tool for the car which comes with a service included. For owners like myself it is a no brainier.. Gene

Guys, we got side tracked on scanners..!

Let me go back on track....replaced the pedal and still the low range acceleration issue. I get a couple of codes a P2037-004 which I get mixed answers when searching and the P202-F which seems to be related to ABC, but I got no ABC!

Any clues?
