SL/R230: My new 2007 MBZ SL550 Pic
Sounds like you overpaid. But, prices change all the time. The person I bought my 2004 SL500 from had just had a B Service done and they came back with another $10,000 in recommended repairs. That's when she decided to sell. I bought it from her for $10,000 and spent about $1500 on all the recommended repairs, most of which I found were unnecessary. One recommended repair, based only on the age (13 years at the time) and mileage (50,000 miles), was to replace the water pump and idler pulley. The Mercedes tech had perceived a little play in the idler pulley. I replaced both and found them to be in perfect working order. My friend had always had the car serviced at the dealership and they treated her like a queen -- of course, they also saw her as a "cash cow". The spark plugs are iridium, which normally are good for 100,000 miles, but Mercedes recommends changing them at 65,000 miles (or thereabouts). Of course, two plugs per cylinder and the labor involved made that recommendation very lucrative for the dealership. Some things, usually involving fluids, you want to stick to religiously. Other things, maybe not so devoutly.
What is your actual model designation? Should be something like 230XXX. Put your VIN into www.lastvin.com to get the info.

I truly thank you all.
