Inside Mirror Functions

I've asked a similar question, but new angle: My inside mirror (reading/map) lights work, but both the mirror auto-dimming and Homelink are dead. I know how Homelink works, so plz hold off on suggestions about both outside buttons. It is DEAD, the indicator light NEVER flashes, no matter how long I hold the buttons.
Here's my question: If the fuse is good—and from what I am reading, it seems like it is F38/7.5amp—is the problem MORE LIKELY in the mirror itself, or the circuit board inside the Overhead Control Module? Has anyone out there had experience with this? Also, if I opt to replace the Overhead Control Module and/or the mirror, does either one require any re-sync/re-programming? (NOTE: local MB dealer ZERO help; suggested "replace mirror, may or may not help." No code they could pull—or else they didn't know how to use their own STAR Diag. tool.)
