So I had a shop refinish a wheel for me, no curb damage but the clear coat was starting to fail on it. Unfortunately, they didn't "notice" the AMG stamp and like, sanded it off or something.
I'll post a before and after type image. I'm pretty sure it's gone forever, any of you guys know a way to get it restamped?
That's kind of what I figured. Let this be a lesson to anyone else. Don't assume a wheel place will not shave your stamp off. If I even know it was a thing, I would have went over it with them from the start.
No fix to that, they machine lathed the wheel after painting to match the original look and in the process, machined the amg off.
Not necessarily true.
Someone "could" use a CNC Metal Router or even a Laser to etch/engrave that onto the wheel but quite frankly, the damage is done. It will look like you re popped a Chinese wheel
Whoever resurfaced your wheels took WAY too much off and the surface wasn't done accurately either. Once that is done you can't go back
That's kind of the running theme for this car so far whenever I get it worked on. Seems like every time I take it somewhere, I get it back a little more jacked up than when I left it.
Don't get disheartened. I know it's hard dealing with independent workshops and local auto repairs.
Try in-depth vetting of perspective shops and ask in person and Social media who has work done and what they liked/disliked before you have a situation.
Ask them the "ugly" questions about repairs not done completely/wrong and possible outcome of being over billed; Before you are in a bad place
It's never going to completely shield you from things going South but with a car like these large expensive repairs are kind of expected and by being prepared in advance will soften the blow when the problems arise.
Don't give up. When these cars behave they're trustworthy and ride so nice.
As for the wheel shop? Maybe they will be helpful if you give them the opportunity to make it right before you pass on negative FB, Yelp etc review. A good business will strive to please an unhappy customer. Make your presence known. Good or bad
Good Luck
Oh I'm ok with it. I appreciate the positive suggestions. This is my second SL so I'm very aware of the running costs. No big shock there. In fact, I still have both of them because I am a crazy person.
The wheels? I mean, the guy messed up, but the rest of the work looks decent, I can't be too mad about it, just a little disappointed. Now I'm sure when I go to sell it, people will think it's a counterfeit wheel. I can already see the accusations flooding in on Bring a trailer in my head. heh
