Gentlemen, I know few of you have access to the WIS system.....and I was wondering something that you may know.!
I recently purchased a WIS/ASRA
software from ebay. and took some extra fast internet connection to download the large compressed files. Then after downloading these files, when uncompressing one of the 7 folders I saw
that takes 52Gb of disk space. That times 7 folders will be around 360 Gb of disk space...! Quite a bit..!
Now, that is because the software includes every model made by Mercedes to date, which is a redundancy since I am only interested in R-230.
So, the question is: Which of these seven Modules contains the information related to the R-230? In that way the disk spaced could be saved!
The total space is about 50GB. I think it has something to do with the way it is packaged, and is reporting the total size.
Each of the files should fit on a DVD disk.
No Idea my friend, I just downloaded the files in the picture and proceed to unzip them since they are compressed files. The process to install is to unzip all these folders and then Install the Oracle VM Virtual Box 6.1.2 which will allow to view the complete manual......as as for your question, yes it seems it works with VM! But my consern is that as I unzipped the first folder with was originally 4.4 Gb...when unzipped it went to 54 Gb....so I assume that 6 more molders will reach 6 times 54 Gb which is a chunk on disk space! Then wonder if I need all these folders since I only will use the R-230 info!
It could very well be that the first file contains all the operating software, while all the others are only data for specific vehicles. IOW I would not assume that all the files are going to be of similar size.

Nope, do the whole thing. I've done several of these VM versions, as well as installing the WIS/ASRA/EPC directly in Windows. It won't work right if you try to just install for one specific car.
As I said 54Gb is the total size. The system is reporting the total size.
All the files will eventually combine into a single Virtual machine file of about 50Gb
Have you read the installation guide? I am not sure you need to unzip them all. I think the .exe file does that all automatically and combines them into one VM file.

Just follow the instructions that came with the program. It will run in VirtualBox (VBOX). If you start messing around with it, it will likely not work because the seller has configured the software using psudo MAC addresses to emulate a network connection. The MAC address is used to generate the program keys that let you run the programs. Change it and you lose your "authorization".
