SL/R230: Parasitic Drain Solution
I had discontinued the MB response service years ago but failed to realize that the signal sending unit (located in the compartment behind the center console) was still reporting in to the MB “Mother Ship” all night, every night.
Once I disconnected that unit, the battery drain was gone. But don’t forget to lose the optical loop with the correct connector (check with your Indie for this) or your radio and some other devices on that circuit won’t work. Hope this helps some others struggling with the drain problem.
Simply pull the plug on the top unit shown and purchase an optical loop connector from your Indy or dealer. This will cause a warning to appear on your dash telling you the telli-aid unit is no longer working. This will be accompanied by a large SOS display. Both are harmless and can be coded out by you’re Indie or dealer. The whole operation should cost less than two hundred dollars. But, If you don’t close the optical connection your radio and a couple other devices linked to the optical system won’t function.
