SL/R230: Roof down and then no soft close trunk... what I found. (PSE pump fix)
I had the roof down and went for a drive, opened the trunk and then soft close did not work. I suspected leaks in the latch as discussed many times here before but not the case here.
Symptoms: So roof down, no soft close trunk, car would not lock and then I saw fuse 71 (20A) was blown. Red 'Close Trunk' warning on dash and red LED lit on door panel trunk open button. Roof would not raise.
I suspected it might be the latch leaking and needing epoxy but then the doors would not lock so I knew it must be the PSE pump.
I braced the roof up with a 2x4 and secured it with heavy duty straps so I could access the trunk to get to the PSE. I did not want to raise the roof manually as I am solo and it's very hard to do alone properly.
Pulled the PSE and opened it according to the great video from 'I Fix My Benz' on YouTube. Video here
Now I have to wait a week to get it but I figured what have I got to lose if I superglue the old rotor and try it while I wait. It was a clean break in half. So I super-glued it and put it all back together and it works! (follow the YouTube to get it to output 40PSI)
I only used it to close the trunk and put up the roof and lock the car because I will replace it with the new rotor when it arrives but at least for now the car is closed and secure.
I used a 15A fuse in slot 71 in case the superglue does not hold and the rotor breaks so I don't ruin the motor in the PSE. (I read somewhere it only pulls 6-7A normally)
