issue with second key and keyless go

I recently purchased a 2007 SL550. I have two keys but only one of the keys works with keyless go. the other key works in ignition and I can press buttons on key fob to unlock/lock, etc but does not work to open doors without pushing button or to get in car and just push start on the shifter. the other key works fine with everything. is there something I need to reprogram with the second key? I have not replaced batteries in second key yet since it works. nothing in the display about key or any messages. any help is greatly appreciated by this new SL owner.

fobs are most likely different part#s, one w/ KG and one w/o KG. nothing can be done if this is the case.

the two key fobs do have different 6 digit numbers printed on the end of them. is this an indication that one is keyless-go and one is not? are these cars delivered with one keyless-go key and one not keyless-go enabled?

thanks!

Not sure on an '07, but I think key 1 was keyless go, key 2 was not. In any case, not many will still have the original 2 keys.

on my 2005 SL500 UK, both keys are keyless go.

You can probably check by removing the battery inside. Keyless only had one battery, non keyless had two batteries. I noted this when replacing the key case from china. Couldnt find the correct one for keyless, but outer body is the same.

The second key may need reprogramming or a new battery. Try replacing the battery first. If that doesn't work, take it to a Mercedes dealer to have it reprogrammed.

The second key might not be properly synchronized with your vehicle’s keyless entry system. While it still works for basic functions like unlocking and starting the ignition, it may need to be reprogrammed or have its battery replaced. Even though it functions for locking/unlocking, the issue with Keyless Go suggests a communication problem between the car and the fob. Try replacing the battery first, as this can sometimes resolve issues. If that doesn’t work, you may need to have the key reprogrammed by a dealership or locksmith. They can sync the key to your car’s keyless system.

My 2007 has 2 keys, both KG capable.
One other scenario to consider is a previous owner had a second key made by a locksmith or similar and who did not provide a KG capable key and did not have the software to amend the the car’s internal list of valid keys.
To my knowledge, Dealers are the only people who can make KG keys, check around for prices in your area.

Either it is a non Keyless Go key or the original key was replaced and they never programmed the Keyless Go portion. The remote entry / ignition authorization is a different coding than the Keyless Go, the former comes programmed from the factory the later requiring dealer programming.
