COMMAND REPLACEMENT WITH ANDROID

Gentlemen, after deeply studying the Android radio connections and the OEM command connections for compatibility, I have a question that perhaps for many of you look obvious but not for me..!

If the Command unit audio is transmitted to the amplifier through FIBER OPTIC conductors, it seems like the speaker Connections outgoing from the Command unit are useless, or is there something there I am not capturing???

If that is the connector on the rear of your COMAND head unit? Doesnt look like any common connector on 230! The speaker connections should be good. Are there wires going to the speaker connection pins?

On some COMAND units the fibre is only used to connect other units (eg. CD multi changer, satellite radio, telephone interface, tele aid etc.) This is the case on my CLK R209.

The head unit acts as the audio gateway, and outputs the sound directly to the speakers. Only cars with BOSE or HK sound system would use the MOST fibre to a separate audio gateway/amplifier.

I didn't realise any R230 had this kind of head unit though. I thought they all had separate audio gateway

g0rsq, these are indeed the D2B Comand 2.0 connectors. But it also has the fiber optic that loops around the other components. These SL-500 2004 and before have a D2B system. Before I even remove all these cluster of connections, I want to make sure of what is right!

This schematic seems to fit your connections.

If you do not have a sound amplifier, then the fibre D2B only connect peripheral devices to the head unit, as the head unit contains the amplifier and speaker connections

If you replace the head unit, then you do not need any D2B connections.
