SL550 Baffled by the COMMAND
Hi all. We got the SL550 mostly dialed in. The car is preet awesome. Especially with only 6k miles on it.
Can't seem to figure out what is wrong with the COMMAND system.
So, just to update the situation with this car
2009 Silver Arrow that sat in a garage for 12 years, hence the 6k miles.
Towed it home and went to out import auto mechanic.
Changed all fluids etc..
New tires, wax, and full cleaning.
Command NTG 4.0
So the Command has never really worked. Here is what it does.
Turn the power on and it does turn on.
None of the buttons work and it stays on for about 30 seconds to a minute and then shuts off and just keeps going in that cycle.
Can't do a hard reset if buttons don't work.
One day randomly it turned on and worked (the key was nowhere near it - I doubt that has anything to do with it, but I should add just in case)
I was able to listen to radio, nav, tried a cd that was in there and it wouldn't read it.
Then I tried the red phone + # +1 combo and got the engineering mode although the screen didn't look the same as what I see online. The was not a list of like 12 things. There was 2 at the bottom. One said applications, and I don't remember what the other said. I hit whatever the other button said and it went into an update mode and when it was done, the system started to glitch again like it always had.
Sorry for the long post, but is this something I can fix? Is this anything yall have seen before?

Is there a reason you want to keep the COMAND system? If you plan on enjoying the car, I would install something modern and keep the old headunit for the next guy to worry about.

You are prob right.
Reason for keeping is to keep it original.
I personally hate the Command system. Seems really dated
What head units work well in these? That fit and could look close to original

2009 Command is just fine, you only need it to stream anyways, Bluetooth Audio Profile is there and so is the connection in the armrest for a good bluetooth dongle, title display on Command, sound is just fine, that is what I did on MY09.
