My wife has a 2003 SL 500. She really loves the Flip up Lambo doors. Does anyone know if there is a place to get them installed in the Bay Area, CA. And if anyone that has had it done have any opinions. Also what is a good place to buy the kit.

They can do anything, if you have enough money.

 

I have spoken to them and the wait just to talk to them about what you want to do is about 3 months. They are very expensive but you are right, they can do almost anything.

I have been told by my Mercedes Dealer that this door retrofit is impossible if you want to maintain the safety of the vehicle.

 

CeC wheels will do it but its also very expensive. Also try evosport.

 

Evosport might do the Kleemann upgrade. It's around 20,000$ and doesn't compromise the safety of the vehicle (as per what I've read).

I say do it, it looks beautiful.

there was a outfit selling the hardware for about 1k on ebay out of maryland. try a search for the lambo door hardware in ebay parts.

 

the new plush magazine shows a step by step installation of lambo doors on a w208 as the example. the article also had a manufacturer listed with a website for all the parts/kit. when i get home, ill post the info

 

search ebay for diablo door kit and it will show the hardware.

Try to convince you wife the normal doors are just as cool.
The pimping pictures are not good. The SL is cool enough!

 

Decah has a kit for about $1-1500, and gt factory has a website there about $2k for the kit but I beleive it is reversible.

Even at first glance the FAB DESIGN SL proudly shows its breathless appearance. Its sensuous lines evoke passion in car lovers and enthusiasts while at the same time accelerating their heartbeats. A unique new front spoiler with two double-deck wing profiles left and right resembles the hi-tech nose cones used in Formula One racing. It gives the new SL a decidedly powerful, almost predatory look while at the same time reducing lift on the front axle. Generously dimensioned air intakes house Xenon-technology high-beams, and provide plenty of cooling air for brakes and engine even in hot climates. Stylistic highlight of the spoiler is its center air intake that seems to be a natural extension of the converging contours of the front grille. The overall effect is the impression of a downward-pointing arrowhead that juts proudly into the wind.

Sportily contoured FAB DESIGN door sills make the sides of the new Mercedes roadster seem longer and let the car appear lower and sleeker than its production counterpart.

The rear of the new SL is dominated by the uniquely shaped centered dual tailpipes of the FAB DESIGN sport exhaust system. The two generously dimensioned chrome-plated tailpipes echo the shape of the tail lights in inverted position thus blending in perfectly with the overall styling of the car.
The tailpipes are surrounded by a FAB DESIGN rear spoiler bumper also with two double-deck wing profiles. Like its counterpart in the front it reduces aerodynamic lift at high speeds. Both aprons are manufactured in OEM quality and feature exceptional precise fit, making the exchange for the production bumper fast and easy.

To round out the decidedly sporty look the FAB DESIGN SL runs on one-piece 20-inch FAB DESIGN Type 6 six-hole light-alloy wheels that fill out the wheel houses beautifully. The wheels are painted silver and assembled with titanium screws. Their special trick: The highly polished outer flange is designed with an entirely flat surface thus creating the illusion of a much larger rim. The front axle of the SL is fitted with 9J x 20 wheels with Dunlop high-performance tires in 245/30 ZR 20. On the rear axle the FAB DESIGN refined SL sports 10J x 20 wheels with Dunlop high-performance tires in size 285/30 ZR 20.

As a world premiere FAB DESIGN presents the SL with new "Butterfly” doors. These doors have been
created by the engineers of FAB DESIGN. For this purpose FAB DESIGN has developed a complete new electronic system, which allows to open the doors either hydraulic or mechanicly. Those Butterfly doors let appear the car very spectacular and sophisticated. The production is limited to 60 pieces worldwide.

Exclusive interiors are a futher speciality of FAB DESIGN. On this particular interior FAB DESIGN choosed a combination in pastel blue alcantara with blue pippings. Also very salient is the matching blue "Magic Granit Softtouch”. FAB DESIGN offers exclusive full leather appointments in varios colors and designs.

Engine Tuning
The stuning attraction of this SL, of course, accentuates the desire for extra power. Now the tuner offers a power package, in connection with different extensive modifications on the engine itself and on the periphery. Just like ECU and exhaust system the compressor engine power imposing 550 HP and produces 790 Nm at maximum torque.

The road performances of the SL with FAB DESIGN modifications are excellent like:
0-100 km/h in 4.4 s
0-200 km/h in 12.8 s
0-300 km/h in 26.9 s
maximum speed in beyond 330 km/h
To manage this power, of course the complete automatic gearbox is reinforced and electronic adjusted.

I spoke to the guys of verticaldoors and Tyrene tell me tha for the SL the sell the universal kit for around of $1399.00 and I saw a video of the door in the corvette and look good to me

 

I want them on my jag XK8..I cant find anyone!!

The FAB kit is horrible quality. The one from Kleemann has two extra hinges IIRC.

Funny you should post this, I just saw this kit installed on a car just two days ago.

The installation was extremely sloppy with wires exposed and gaskets that waterproof the openings missing.

I also found it difficult to open the door as you have to physically push the door up as opposed to it happening with some power or effective mechanical assist.

Not my cup of tea under these circumstances.

Shaq had these guys do all his work, WOW WOW WOW, everyone run out and take their classy Mercedes and get it chimped out.

 

IF you are looking for QUALITY stuff, i would go to "HAMANN"
might be a bit expensive but i think its worth the money.
