SL/R230: Seat Position Using/Not Using Key
I thought it was strange that the same key could result in two different seat positions depending on whether it was placed in the ignition or not.
In my MBCA STAR magazine, VP for Customer Service, Klaus Ulkann said Mercedes remove the feature allocating individual seat and mirror memories to different keys in the 2005 models.

I think there is also something about the two different keys being programmed indepently, there is something in the dash display under one of the menus and "key dependent" I will check it out and let you know.
When I use the key in the ignition, the seats move to a program position, and when I start with keyless go to seats move to another program position. When my wife uses her key in the ignition the seats move to that program position. On the 2004 models, you can program the memory settings 1, 2, and 3 to each key in the ignition. That means my wife’s key number 1 is different than my number 1 with the key in the ignition. Also keyless go program positions 1, 2, and 3 will be different than the keys 1, 2, and 3 position in the ignition.
I thought the 2005 models just have one memory which memory positions 1, 2, and 3 is shared by keyless go and the key in the ignition. This may mean that the key in the ignition and keyless go can be program to a different 1, 2, and 3.

If you can change the settings of "key dependent memory" in your instrument cluster settings, then you have this capability. If you disable the dependent memory, then all keys will share the same memory settings, keyless go or in the ignition.
