Lately, when trying to operate the retractable top with the key
(by pressing and holding the "lock" (for top to go up) or "unlock" (for top to go down), it won't work.

I have checked the batteries in the key.....batteries okay. I also make sure I'm pointing the key at the sensor on the door handle.

Any thoughts?

If any part of the key is working like the door locks or the windows open and close then the key is working and it is the mechanism in the car. If you can't get the key to work at all, keep working on those batteries. Also, try the other key.

Can't imagine it is anyting big. Take it to the dealer.

It's only the infra red element of the key which operates the roof, so that key has to be close, a few feet and pointed directly at the door handle. It's not like the radio unlocking.

Did you find out the reason why the key did not open the roof?

The key's infrared has to be close [and pointing at] to the door handle infrared sensor. Also if the sensor on the key or the handle is a little dirty it will block it from working also. Good Luck and let us know if it works.

What exactly is this? Is this a chip which we can do ourselves or does it have to be sent out. Cost...Performance?

Haha Brent, you are in such a weird place to ask that question.

You have to send in YOUR chip, it gets reflashed, and you plug in YOURS that gets mailed back.

I can't remember cost, but if you want, I can find out pricing for you, just shoot me an e-mail or PM and I'll also see if I can find the pricing of other ECU chips if you want.

Az, are you sure that the thing in the trunk is in locked in place? I remember trying to do this a month or so ago from the outside and forgot that I had moved the trunk thing.

FYI, the trunk piece is called the boot and if it were not engaged it would show a warning in the instrument cluster.

I have have had a similar problem. It seems to be sensitive to how far way you have the key. My car works well with the key about 4-5 feet away.
If the key is close if tends to stop half way down.
