Why mess with the classic lines of the R230 if it turns out like that.A Disaster IMO.
Should ensure that the residuals in the original R230's hold up and the new car depreciates more!.

Don't hold your breath on the R230 residuals. It's not happening...

Design of R 231
Mercedes will lose sales based on the design of the latest SL series in the same way that BMW did when Chris Bangle's design destroyed sales of the last BMW 5 series.I believe the 231 is technically a far better car but the latest shape from all angles is a retrograde step for Mercedes Benz.

Why is it that some people think their personal subjective assessment about the aesthetics of some object must be universally agreed upon by others or even remotely correct?
You don't like the looks of the 231? Great. Go hang out some place else.

Same old story. I don't care if people don't like one design or another, but they loose me when they try to come up with some value/depreciation/sales BS to validate their opinion. It's a question of taste.
As a person that owned SL's for 15 years+ I can tell you that this one get's the most thumbs up of any of them. Go figure...

R231design.
Having recently traded my 2nd Aston Martin(v12)for a 500SL(R230)I am used to driving beautiful modern classics but in my opinion the new R231 has lost the classic look albeit that it is by all accounts a better, lighter car than it's predecessor.

Interesting all the people who post that the redesign to the 231 will kill the SL sales. Especially when they do not own one. That is why there are hundreds of car designs out there. So that everyone can be happy with the car they own.
I owned a 230 and thought it was beautiful. I own the 231 and I think the 231 is beautiful as well (or I would not have spent $130,000 on it). The 231 is head and shoulders a better automobile, in just about every category, than my 230 was.
If you like the 231.... buy one. I LOVE mine and reccomend it to anyone who will listen. If you don't like it, there are hundreds of other models out there to choose from.
