I read somewhere that they are making only 700 of these for 2013. Is that real or rumor?
The CL has a turbo hiss upon acceleration that was very obvious which I hope MB tuned down for the SL.

I don't know about the production stats.

My dealer is looking into a way to see if he can get the vented seats to have the ac flowing up towards one's body vs the current direction of air being pulled away; hoping they can as I really need that since the epidral left me with lots of new pain and my legs with a terrible burning feeling

There is a large thread in the E class AMG section where guys have changes the fans in their seats wanting better cooling...it's quite interesting. https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...d-anymore.html

I didn't notice much of a turbo hiss on the car this afternoon. A little, but not much. Getting on the throttle hard gets a little growl out of the engine, it's muted and quiet---like a hidden monster in another room, but it's there and would be a nice little balanced rumble with an after market exhaust. Just idling or driving and the thing is quiet.

Thanks for the feedback.

Wonder how it would sound with the new SL 63 mufflers?

I'm wondering about the same thing about the SL63 mufflers!
RENNtech in the Lake Park, FL area will install their muffler system on the new SL550.
Below is a quote from them.
----
"Since this is a new model, we would need to have the car here to do an exhaust upgrade, the cost would be about $2995 for the mufflers and about 3 hours of labor at $140 per hour."

Great point about Renntech, I've meet Hartmut the President before. I will call them tomorrow to see if they can also do the seat fan mod.

Here's something else I found for the seat fans http://www.ebmpapst.fr/media/404/4_s...lation_usa.pdf

Thanks Bear!

You're welcome! Please let us know the outcome of your conversation with them. They may have several different muffler installation available by now.
Good luck with the seat fan mod!

So the top does not go up or down even at slow speeds? I thought I read that the top will operate up to 5mph.

How does it pull with full throttle? My C63 is just as fast as this and its quite a ride to 60, I can image this has even a harder pull on the lower end due to the turbos.

I am going to miss the 6.3 AMG rumble though :/

I tried it again today at a very slow speed going FORWARD and it did work.

I have a EDP delivery date of July 2nd for pick-up in Germany.
I've been offered an ELW 7yr./75K for $2650 or a 7yr./100K for $3699.
Has anyone been offered a better price?

It has a 4 year 50k already on it. We trade more often than that so we didn't ask and they knew better than try and push it. ALTHOUGH, it does have run flat tires ($$$) and each wheel cost ($$$$$). So we are considering getting the tire protection insurance. I think that's about $2K. Two or three nails in tires over 4 years will just about pay for that.

With that said, determine how long you will want to keep the car, and call around to other dealers and check on ebay. There's a lot of mark-up in some of those extended plans and you may find a competitive price to go back at them with.

SL550 ELW Pricing

Thanks for your reply.
Actually, I'm looking for specific offers that may beat what I have on the table at this point.
Thanks again.

Call around, ask another dealer or two. You may be able to get a moire competitive price. The extended warranty (really just an insurance policy of sorts) sold by the dealers will often earn them more $$$$ than the car itself. I'll call my dealer and ask them as well and post back here if I find out anything.

My dealer would not give a price, but hinted closer to the $2.0-2.3 k mark and said you should negotiate further.

Extended Warranty Prices for R231

It looks like the prices shown by me a couple of days ago are close to the best around.
The contacts you sent to me by PM were significantly more expensive.

Great review

I was at Pompano 2 weeks ago to see the 3 cars but no one had driven one yet.

Mine is scheduled for a mid May build with delivery end of June. No movement .01 on the price. MSRP.

I stuck with 18 inch wheels and am considering the 19 inch option. Could be too late though to change the order.

Tell them you want to change the order to the European Delivery Program.
Use the 7% discount for a nice 14 day vacation around Europe.

I've never paid MSRP for a car, nor would I ever even consider doing so.

Joe,

Don't feel bad at all. We were told a few dealers are even charging over sticker and getting it before the cars hit the states. The car is in high demand and it's hard for dealers to get a build right now---that and production is rather limited. We got a small bit off on the one we purchased and few add-ins, like rubber mats, trunk liner, shirts/caps etc. But the price is what it is. The S, M and E we purchased over the last couple years all came in about 8% to 11% off sticker.

Really? I was quoted a fair bit less than that. Perhaps I was given a wrong number. But we buy a lot of cars, don't put a lot of miles on any one of them and trade them frequently so have never had use for an extended warranty. Regardless, glad you got a good deal and were able to confirm it.

'13 SL550 '15 C400 4MATIC and a really old Honda Accord
I took delivery of the SL550 in Sindelfingen last Wednesday. It will take ~6 weeks for my car to arrive here in Northern Virginia.

RichardB, I ordered the B&O sound system. You made the right choice not to order this expensive option. It honestly does not sound any different or better than the Harmon Kardon System in my previous E550 Coupe or the SLK. The bass is so-so. The only "cool" thing about the B&O system are the little tweeters on the dash board. The Mark Levison system in the IS that I test drove actually sounded better. Althought I would never buy a Lexus, I can honestly say that their sound system is better than the ones Mercedes has to offer.

I also got the Magic Sky Control. And I noticed that you also have that option. Can you please tell me if your SL550 headliner is plastic or lined in faux suede? I got an Obsidian exterior with premium black leather interior. Even though my Confirmation of Order indicated that there is a grey headliner, my SL550 came with a cream colored hard plastic headliner.

Not to be anymore negative but it is the same headliner as my old SLK350. Pretty disappointing for a $100K+ car.

Thank you.

+1 on B&O system.
