Question Request to current R231ers or MB Techs

Would you be kind enough to tell me how much clearance there is under the driver's seat and when looking under there can you see any of the seat ventilation fans? They're probably covered with a black mesh.

I am looking to fit a Petlier cooling unit under the seat and do the fan mod to have the air blown up into the seat (vs down through it) from the cooling unit.

Thanks!

I can slide my hand under the seat, but there's not much room.

Good question. I can easily get a closed fist under---once past the back bar there is maybe 4 to 5 inches. That will go up to about halfway forward where a bar crosses over.

Thanks Richard. Some of the Petlier units are quite small and it might fit. I'll call them tomorrow and report back. Thanks again.

I can stand an IPhone upright under the seat. Want a pic?

Sure. Can you feel the fans covers? Should be three.

Thanks

There really isn't a fan cover. The blades are sort of just under the seat cushion. It's hard to get a good picture but I was able to get a bad one! LOL

It looks like you will have room to hang one under each seat fan, flip the seat fan over so it blows and still have room for the hot side cooling fan. I felt two fans, but think they're 4.

It looks like there is about 4 to 4-1/2 inches between floor and fan. You may get more if you raise the seat up, this is based on where I keep the seat for me.

Awesome info! I think this would be an amazing and easy mod. Once you drive a car with true cooled seats you'll always want them. Thank you!

I just need to find the right person down here to do the mod; I will see if Petlier can set it up to just plug into my 12v accs therefore bypassing a hard wire, but I guess they can be spliced right into the fan power wires so when they go on so does the coolers?

I think they can. But the switches on the fans are three way---low, med and high. You'll have to verify the ability of that circuit to carry the much higher load and and may need to up the fuse size. A separate circuit for the cooler may be the best way to go considering the above. There will be two blank switches right behind the shifter if you do not have the ABC system. It doesn't look like it would be difficult to install one there---may even be able to get a MB switch that fits the cut out and use it. Also, the lighter is in the arm rest, so you would have to leave it open to plug in.
