SL/R231: Daytime running (fog) light strips.

Daytime running (fog) light strips.
Is anyone else finding that the master light switch must be in the vertical (automatic) position for the fog light strips to be lit at night... that when it's in the 1 O'Clock position at night, the (fog) light strips are off

I haven't tried out the auto hi beams, nor read about them in the manual.
I checked it the garage just now and saw that, with the light switch at 12 O'Clock, I could flash the brights but they wouldn't stay on. Perhaps it's because of the low beams being reflected back from the wall.
You know what they say? When all else fails, RTFM (read the manual). I'll have to do that later.
