There are many approved MB wheel options available for the 231 series, just click the link below to see what's available by size. If you like the (softer-riding) 18" wheel size like I do, then you may be interested in the 'elegant' 15-spoke MB 18" wheels shown on this site..

Note also that the 18-inch 15-spoke wheels are seldom seen, so by choosing those, you achieve an 'updated custom look' while still using genuine MB alloy wheels. The price of this particular wheel option seems quite reasonable too!

The forum is literally littered with wheel options for the R231 from sponsors that offers wheels for the SL.
Most aftermarket wheels will be better quality than the majority of MB SL wheels (with the exception of all SL65 and some SL63 wheels) which will be plain cast aluminum wheels. Go for forged wheels or at minimum flow formed wheels = better strength and lower unsprung weight.

Good luck!

While this is good general information, the poster asked this question in 2012 and doesn't appear to have been on the forum since 2014.

Yes, I realize it was an oldish post by the OP, but obviously, the info remains relevant today! This direct genuine MB wheel site is worth a look today! (Click on the link below to see why)
