New SL550 Owner
Well, I am back to Mercedes after a several month hiatus. Last summer was a very painful one, had to trade in my Porsche 911 Cabriolet manual tranny because after my fourth knee surgery on my left knee, I could no longer drive a manual. The new SL was not out yet and wanted something inexpensive to drive for the summer. Extremely small pickings. Spent my summer in a Lexus IS with no trunk space with the top down! I regard the experience as having a convertible to cruise around in. Nothing special.
Now with most of the winter winding down, and my SUV carjacked last month, I guess now is the time to get my convertible. I was thinking of the Mercedes SL550, BMW 650, Jaguar XKR and Porsche 911. I have a 911 coupe and the ride really much more of a sport car and wanting something different.
My first stop was at the Mercedes dealer and I really fell in love with the classic color scheme car in the showroom. Silver exterior with black/premium red leather interior, just like the classic SL. I decided to test drive the car. Wow, what I drive. The torque is simply unbelievable! The car is as fast as my Porsche 911 in a straight line. The seats were very comfortable and I had enough room to straighten out my painful left knee. The comfort seats were amazing.
Decided to abandon my search then. I will pick up the car this weekend. I will lease the car for 27 months.
The car is optioned as follows:
Iridium silver
Red/Black premium leather
Dash analog clock
Premium 1 Package
Driver Assistance Package
Illuminated door sills
I got a good deal on this configuration and even though I might have opted for the soft door close option and have gone for the sport wheel package, but I think with New Jersey roads, the standard wheel package is likely the smart move.
Have I missed anything that I will regret not getting.
Will post pictures after I pick up the vehicle.

Picked up the car early due to a sale event on Saturday. A snapped a couple of pictures. Will post more after a better detail job.
