Need an answer fast pls!!!! URGENT.

So I get a phone call from my local Merc dealer who says he has to sell 10 cars by the end of business Saturday which I presume is to make his end of month targets and they are giving discounts of between 13-18K on certain cars. I brought my SL550 in May 2008 from them and have held back on getting a new one due to the fact that I felt the new shape was not as agressive looking as mine but do hear that the electronics and ride are greatly improved, etc, etc.

Would you please take a look and scroll down to see if this is such a good deal. I have been told the Merc Manager is giving me 13K off MSRP but one has to take into consideration taxes, tags, registration and fees which he states comes to about 1K. Its really late here and they want to know by tomorrow......should I wait and keep my car(have another 2 year extended warranty) but probably need to have the tires changed within the next 4 months. Is the part exchange a fair price? I have the works apart from the Distronic nonsense package in my existing car and which I note they are charging an extra near 3 K for the new one which I didnt particularly need or want and would have prefered the Skyline roof, but do you think I could as they state further down.....get away with 60K net, "out the door"

Greatly appreciate some help here........................here is the deal and some of their codes are wrong as its not black leather..........but cream

$60K plus trade would be a good deal. If you won't regret getting the skyroof than I'd go for it but for them to drop another $6K might be a stretch but nothing to lose by trying. End of the month is usually good for dealing. Good luck.

13k off list for a 2013 SL550? I paid full list but I got one of the first one in the country.

Do I understand you correctly? You're worried about the extras when you are getting such a bargain?

This is one of the lowest prices I have seen on a new SL. I saved $9500 and thought I was doing ok!

I am not sure what options you wouldn't have chosen; this is somewhat a standard config. I have never seen a bare bone '13 SL for sale.

If you like the car, go for it! The new price is great and the trade-in is realistic for an 09. Maybe you can squeeze a couple $K more out of the trade-in.

Me too and I got about $8.2k off. The trade does cloud the actual discount.

I don't see anything on your option list that i don't have except for the wood steering wheel and the panoramic roof. Here is my unasked for opinion of your list, condensed by me. Some items appear to be standard.

Cool Vs Required is, well, in the eye of the newly poor

Required.... Premium Leather

Required... Premium 1 Package: Rearview Camera

Required...........KEYLESS-GO

Screw that... PARKTRONIC with Active Parking Assist

Cool<G>......Active Ventilated Seats

Required......AIRSCARF

So cool....... Active Multicontour Seats

Required......HANDS-FREE ACCESS

Cool............Illuminated Door Sills

Cool............Analog Clock on Dash Top

Required......Driver Assistance Package blind spot assist

Required......DISTRONIC PLUS with PRE-SAFE Brake

Eh..............Wood/Leather Steering Wheel

Cool............Sport Wheel Package

cool...........Panorama Roof

As I typed this, I realized cool is as important as required in a car of this caliber

You're are going to be so happy with the car. With all the systems on the car, there is a bit of learning curve.

Let us know if the ECO start/stop works for you. They can't seem to fix mine.

Thx guys for all your quick replies..................Daytona, apart from the obvious, I dont really know what an Eco System does and talking about this as you mentioned a learning curve, would you by any chance have a link I could read up to study about the differences between my car and the new one which I should get next week?

Thx.

No magic required, just go to the MB website. You can also download the entire owner's manual.

http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/vehicl...L/model-SL550R

Go to YouTube and search SL550 and watch 40 reviews that outline the features in the new model.

thx Big Hat..will do. Just noticed that on my existing car I had ABC, the new one doesn't come with this.............I very occasionally raised it in certain conditions but being in Florida cant say the roads are that bad, so wondering if I will miss this feature?

I test drove a car without it and felt it drove/handled just fine. Wasn't going to get it but my SA talked me into it. There's a thread around on the subject around here. It's a complex system, and in the eyes of some a problem prone feature. Others say that it's been around long enough that they've worked out the bugs. I hope to never drive mine outside the warranty window so I opted to try it out. More than just a road height feature and I recall a video on the system on the MB site.
Betting you cope just fine w/o it.

From the MB site: Active Body Control (ABC)
Arguably the most advanced suspension in production, ABC is a fully active suspension that ideally balances comfort and response in virtually every situation. A network of advanced sensors and electronically controlled hydraulics is designed to counteract the effects of roll, vibration, pitch, dive and squat when cornering, braking and accelerating. A driver-selectable Sport mode provides virtually flat cornering capability far beyond ordinary suspensions. Automatic 4-wheel level control gradually lowers the ride height as speeds increase, to improve aerodynamics and stability.

The ECO system refers to the start/stop feature. It shuts the engine off at red lights to save fuel.

Here's a link for an online owner's manual. I came across it in this forum. It's not for the USA version of the car but it's close.

Why not just get the US one from the MB website in about 10 seconds?

Thanks for posting that. It's the first I've seen it. What you have there is the "operators manual" that comes in the glove box.

The owners manual itself, is in the Command unit. It's much larger. It comes on a DVD that I was not able to read on either of my computers.

I tried to get a hard version but M-B said no.

And thank you for the clarification. Since I'm still awaiting my car I was thinking the operators manual and owners manual were one in the same. The top of the web page calls them owners manuals and the file itself does say Operators... I was still able to learn a lot about the car. Lots data in over 570 pages. Not so much with the Command guide found on the same web page. Need to be able to play the system while reading the guide for it to make better sense.

Quick question pls. Does the DVD download the content into Command or does it need to stay in the drive for the data to be accessible? Thank you.

Update on supposed new 2013...a problem?

Haven't got my new car as there is a problem........

They are saying that the Purge Valve(WTF is that?) has a problem. It seems to be sticking and turns on the check engine light. When they went to replace it, they found information that the part number has changed and the new part is available in limited quantities. But I can still get the original part which is NOT a recommended repair, but only a temporary repair.
So they called to get a new part number and there are(supposedly) only 3 in the country and they are at least 6 or 7 in line for it, but since my car has the lowest mileage vehicle(it's new for f,s sake) they should get it by tomorrow, so they will plug in the new valve and retest it tomorrow and have the vehicle recleaned!!!!

When I commented on this as reasonably as I could plus a few words not to be repeated here..was told that sh$t happens and at the end of the day, it's still a "piece of machinery" quote, unquote...some 120k's worth of machinery?

So what do the experts make of this? Maybe I'm reading too much into this?

Also, I had my old escort radar detector nicely hidden on the right hand side(passengers side) sitting on top of the mirror(on my 2009 SL550) and they say due to the new configuration of the mirror, they wont be able to have the same arrangement which is what I basically wanted.....any suggestions without making it obvious?

Thx.............

The Purge Valve is a little vacuum pump that keeps the vapor from escaping from the gas tank and sends it to be burned in the engine. If it doesn't work right it throws a code similar to if you leave the gas cap loose. Sounds like there's a problem with some of the original units. I guess we'll see if more of us have problems. Thanks for the update and good luck with the repair.
