Update to new SL 2013 and problems therein.
So I still havent received the car? They got the new Purge Valve, or whatever it was and now having problems with fitting my Escort Passport 9500 radar detector in the new car, which worked fine on the old one. First they said they couldn't get power and now the Detector only turns off after 15 mins after the car is stationary..........Surely not??? And further more, tell me that this is the only way it will work with the new electronics and wiring in the car.................![bs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/bs.gif)
Something just isn't right here.............Daytona, if you are reading this, perhaps you could chime in, in more detail, as to exactly how you did yours?
Thx.....

The installation took less than half an hour. I used a wire hanger to pull the connector end of Escort's straight cord from the fuse box next to the driver door. I tucked it behind the trim on the "A" pillar, the headliner and the box behind the mirror.
The 9500ix is mounted just below the mirror with a short length of the wire that emerges from the box behind the mirror.
The fuses there are always hot, so I try to remember to turn it off. However there is a feature in the menu of the 9500ix that will shut it off after four hours of non use.
The, installation, though easy to do, looks professional.
You most likely will need to shut the X-band off due to interference from the cars radar.

Thank you Daytona...I passed this on, but since the professionals have no idea and you managed it, what do you think the reason is for them stating it only works by shutting itself off after 15 mins.....?
I think I will get the car and sort it out myself.......

I have our Passport 9500 mounted above the dashboard. While I understand that it is beneficial to mount it higher, I found the difference is sensibility to be negligible and the thing bothers me underneath the mirror.
Plus the wiring is much easier from the dashboard to the lighter socket underneath the glove compartment, which is switched as well.
Btw, I have zero X-band interference fom distronic; just the usual false stationary alerts which get mapped automatically out on my usual routes. But I agree, x-band can be safely turned off; haven't see any cop use these in a decade.
My 2cents...

Would you by any chance be able to take a pic of where you placed this as would be most interested to see it.........?
Daytona..sent a copy of what you said today to the Mercedes guy and this is what he sent back......
The job I did is much better than this guys. He states the fuses are always HOT. That’s the problem, he also states that his radar unit 9500ix
shuts off automatically after 4hours. Where yours doesn’t. I have yours wired in to the interior lighting circuit. This circuit shuts off in 20 to 30
minutes if it senses a current draw. I’ve tested it myself 4 to 5 times and it always shuts off. So I know you’ll be fine. The issue now is the best
way to deliver the vehicle.
(back to me).....I personally don't like where they have placed the detector.......Passenger side next to the top of the mirror and passenger cannot bring the visor fully down?
Anyway, first drive in the car back from the dealership and I was very pleasantly surprised at the shape of the car..............heard others moan about the new shape and I actually prefer it to my old one..and I loved that. Paid extra for the white, which I didnt have to in 09, but now realize it is a pearlised finish which is very cool.............The Salesman however did not tell me the truth though about the interior dash colour, he over the phone said it was about 5-10% darker than my previous beige/stone color and I was disappointed to see that its very dark brown,(about 75% darker) but will obviously get used to it as loved the interior dash color before, but only tells me today when I first see the car, that they don't do my previous color anymore due to supposed European anti glare regulations??
Did notice the size difference and sure the trunk is bigger...ride seems very smooth......got lots to learn up about and will let you know my thoughts later... By the way, do they still include Sirius for three months or so...actually couldnt find Satelite, but nead to look at the manual to see....
Only been in the car for an hour or so but its looks and feels fabulous...

I like the smaller suction mount for that reason. Obviously, everyone has their own preference, but it's a quick install and fully switched
