Escort 9500ix
Hi Guys,
Just bought one and I am looking for recommendations from 2013 SL owners who have this RD in their 2013 SL. I am not real happy with having to mount it on the windshield and I sure I do not want to plug the power cord into the outlet in the passenger footwell or the cigarette lighter. Also it appears that the Escort
people do not make a mirror mount for Mercedes.
Thanks,
Jack Logan

I use Escort's large suction cup. The 9500 is right below the center of the mirror. Even though it's view of the sky seems blocked, the GPS works well there.
The straight cord is tucked under the headliner.
I had to shut off K band due to the cars radar. Some say they don't have to. Let us know your experience.
I would look at this. It might explain why some do not report a problem with K band.

Thanks Daytona. I think I will get the large suction cup. I do not understand how it works tucking the straight cord under the headliner. How would the top be raised?

I used a wire hanger to pull the connector end of the straight cord up from the fuse box on the left side of the dash. Use a screwdriver to carefully pry it open.
Run it under trim on the A-piller and the trim piece on top of the windshield. stuff it in then out of the box behind the mirror.
I didn't find a switched fuse so I set the 9500 to turn off after four hours of non-movement. Just in case I forget to turn it off.
Sorry about the confusion re: the headliner. In a coupe, it would be.

I had posted of our 9500 placement here (last post)
https://mbworld.org/forums/sl-class-...s-therein.html
In this installation, the cable runs to 12 Volt outlet under the glove compartment (on the inside of course). Benefit is that the outlet is switched, so the RD turns off then the car is off.
Much has been discussed about Distronic, Radar Detectors and infrared coated glass in the MB forums over the years.
I have had the infrared coated windshield on many MB's and it was apparent, especially with polarized sunglasses.
Interestingly, I don't think that the 2013 SL has that coating anymore. I know that they have the sun-reflective coating on the leather seating.
The manual also doesn't describe the usual infrared cutout locations anymore which led me to believe there is no more.
I found that the detector works well for me on all bands and matches the other cars we had with the same detector (including BMW)
