Thank you guys, but my car is in the workshop at this moment. I hope to get it back by next week - weekend (2015-04-18) . So the pictures in this thread are renderings.

Why renderings? Because I couldn't find a SL63 with SL65 rims and a red interior, red callipers and an iridium exterior,....

The rendering is not 100% accurate, my car will have a SL63 front, side and back without the carbon fiber package.

Perhaps I will wrap the front aluminium on the bumper in gloss black as well as the part between the pano roof and the windshield : see my rendering.

I don't think there is a fitting 19" set in the PSS, so the 295 should work. Otherwise I would get the Potenza RE050A's
thnx..

I was looking at the specs of the SL yesterday, more specifically to the size of the track specs of the axles.

When switching to AMG wheels (which are normally mounted on a 'real' AMG), you increase the track in front with appr 8mm. In the rear nothing changes.

Looking at the wheels specs :

OEM SL400/550 :
Front : 8.5 * 19 ET 35.5
Rear : 9.5 * 19 ET 48

AMG SL63/65 :
Front : 9 * 19 ET 27
Rear : 10 * 19 ET 48

So in front a difference of 35.5 - 27 : 8.5mm (rear is the same)

So ideally you have mount some spacers in the rear to compensate for the wider track in front.

Not sure how this move to AMG wheels affects handling. Any input from the members ?

I have the forged SL65 wheels with the 19"/20" rears and can tell you that there is a great difference in handling, but's thats due to the lighter forged wheels and non-runflat performance tires. Better in any way. No difference due to width.

I can also compare this as I had the R231 with steel springs (stock height and then lowered via H&R sport springs) with/without stock AMG 19" wheels.

Also have the R231 with ABC which lowers itself at speed setup in stock height and using a Renntech ELM which lowers the car to your settings between 0 to 30mph (48km/h) and then raises automatically to stock height.

Also had the wheels with/without spacers. I didn't like that the wheels sit too far inside the wheel wells and added spacers (10mm front/20mm rear). The rear is a bit too aggressive and will go down to 10-15mm.

I feel the car drives/looks best with wider tracks but an alignment with toe adjustment is in order.

In any case, everything I did improved handling. Using the lowering springs was a bad move as the car sat too low without the ability to adjust and definitely reduced the ride comfort. Not recommended.

Btw. the European SL models on springs sit lower than the US versions by a good 1/2" even if the lowered suspension was not ordered from the factory.

Really? I had planned to do that and was told it would work.
Is it not working due to physical fit/wrong connectors or electrically not doing anything?

Part No's used?

Physical fit. The AMG paddles need a deeper hole than the normal paddles.
You should cut in the steering wheel and that was not an option for me.

Looks very promising. How do the front wheels look in terms of fitment ? Not sticking out to much ? Can you take some pics from above (up - down) to see the distance/measurements ?

Thanks

This is a picture from in the car body shop...
I hope to see my car in person very soon.

I'll take extra pictures as soon as the car is on my driveway.

I realize you're into design as a profession and being OCD, But why in the hell would you spend this amount of money retrofitting your car to AMG specs when you could've just bought one in the first place?

Because I'm an idiot and followed my head (very high taxes, insurance, ...) instead of my heart.

I'm just 34 and have other priorities at the moment.

But an E280, S350L and SL350 are a good alternative for now.

PS: I'll pick up the SL next saturday.

I think you addressed the biggest improvements. Visual and handling wise (wheels/tires).

With an ECU upgrade the car will be as fast as the SL63 anyway and don't have to deal with the controversial MCT transmission

I wonder if anyone has any input on that, SL550 (RENNTECH) vs. SL63 (FACTORY)???

Decided on the last moment to go for OEM SL63 brakes and AMG red callipers instead of my current AMGpack callipers painted red.

2 days... and I can this SL.

Love those wheels. I know it sits abnormally high in this pic, but will you lower the car also ?
