Sl63r231 630bhp 840nm
sl63 project
After much some research I have just embarked on some upgrades for my car and I thought I would post my progress so far. I would also welcome some feedback on some next steps.
I have dyno'd my car before and after each mod on three different dd rolling roads and have been getting consistent outputs with 3 or 4 bhp.
Work so far.
Stock car dyno'd at 574bhp 800nm from new.
Stock after 12k miles and K&N filters 581bhp 800nm
Rebellion piggy back tuning box 628bhp 840nm. The box improved the curve from 2k revs and pretty much match the standard line on the dd shootout. The car felt like a very different animal. I commute in the car as well as track it and on the straight a goodwood it was pulling 6mph faster at 156mph than before the box was installed. The noise test was also another surprise on the day at 4k revs the car had gone from 91db pre-tune to 99db post tune. Great mod really please.
Next.
I have two new additions going on next week.
Thursday a pair of RADO downpipes with sports cat being installed at Eurocharged london. Should give he a much more fruity sound and bring me a bot more power as well. I will dyno run after and report back.
Next week some time I should be receiving a TCU map on a flash device from Rebellion which should improve the shift time and adjust the torque limiters boosting the torque reading and improving acceleration. The faster shifting will be a real bonus as the box can be a bit sluggish!
Future
Some cosmetic bits new alloys, lowering module. I have also started discussion on getting the limiter adjusted to 330KPH (205mph) via the can bus and would be interested to hear from anybody who has gone down this route.
thanks

Just to update.
My new Rado system was delivered and was the wrong size, and brackets were in the wrong place! To be fair they DHL a new setup to the Uk last Friday and I am booked in for next a Tuesday. This will be the 1st install of the sports Cat Rado's on an SL or so I have been informed so fingers crossed it all fits (eurocharged have lined up a good welder just in case of any adjustments). Hoping to get the tcu flash drive as well as I have the dyno sessions lined up for Tuesday and the EC guys are going to plug in some telemetrics to look at acceleration, G and timings.
i am still looking at limiter removal via the can bus any views on hear or any experience of the hack?

Anyways, if you are planning to go above 190mph for extended periods of time, make sure to adjust tire pressure and/or different tires.

The conti 5 on the car at the moment are only rated to 186 so they would need changing.

I have a ecu piggyback box that doesn't remove the limiter. If I had gone for the direct ecu tune it would of involved either drilling the ecu or prising it open the limiter would of gone. The conti 5 on the car at the moment are only rated to 186 so they would need changing.
I only know of AMG removing the limiter without a tune but they would only unlock it to 186 afaik.

I had my new Rado downpipes with sports cats fitted yesterday.
The new pipes arrived last week pre-assembled with the cats and were supposed to bolt straight on to the existing setup. The pipes were being fitted by Euro charged London but as a precaution they had booked a ramp at EMP an exhaust specialist just in case there were any issues. Once the car was on the ramp and the old pipes were removed it was quite obvious that both the angle of the cats and the length were not correct for my car. So the option were either send them back or get the cutter and the tig out!
Being the impatient sort the cutter and tig were deployed and after four hours of adjustments the pipes were installed. The team at EMP did a great job but this left me tight to get to the dyno before it shut.
On first fire-up the car had noticeably deeper tone but nothing to intrusive but when revved it sound like a different car. The stock car although good under full chat was an aural step down from my c63 but I would say its now a step up. I am really happy with the result.
After a 10mile drive in traffic I had time for one dyno run (not on the dyno dynamics as above) I am waiting for the spec. I tried to keep the temp down but not to much success.
The car was running hot but I was still expecting a BHP increase but it read 611bhp and this was peaking 500 revs earlier a drop of 17bhp (two other dyno's had the car running 628 and 627) Interestingly the torque had moved up by 104nm to 946nm. I am booking it in on the dyno dynamics next week so I can at least get one of the variables nailed.
Apart from the sound the car has definitely gained some more pull and on the road test it felt more urgent and from 2k all the way to the red line.
once I get it onto the dyno dynamics I will report back again and hopefully with some timings.
