I'm comparing the above 2016 picture with the front of my 2015, and I frankly don't see any differences except for that nice tape holding the lights in. Someone clue me in!

True. The exterior in this pic is identical to the current minus the cut-ins for the headlights. This is kind of normal at this stage; I assume they are probably only testing/calibrating the lighting software.
Can't wait for the first facelift pics as I am really excited about their latest designs (love the GT AMG, S Class coupe), and the SL front end really needs some improvement.

Since the current model came out, MB has offered the SL in both the "Standard" and "AMG" body trims, but ONLY in Germany. The rest of the world, including the U.S., only gets the AMG model. The "Standard" trim SL is a much more elegant and beautiful looking car, at least to me. My SL is going to be 11 years old this year. I would like a new one, but unless and until MB offers the "Standard" trim model in the U.S., I will keep my 2004 with 21,000 miles on the clock. Why the Germans can have a choice, but we can't, is just ridiculous to me.

The 2016 SL550 they started to build them June 6, 2015.
I ordered one the car will be in Brunswick on July 17th then up to my dealer, I should have the car in my hands by the end of the week!!

well actually this pic is not a real 16's sl( facelifted one )..
it seems the engineers of MB' are testing the car with S-class' headlight on it..
i already saw some pics with a sl looking car with headlights of new AMG-GT
you may check pics on internet..
headlights fits pretty well with AMG-GT but it does not look so good with sl body i think.

So the picture above is the facelift? I don't really see any difference. I also still prefer the R230 even though mine really doesn't look like either at the moment.
