White is so sporty!
Beautiful Car looks like it’s in great shape and Congratulations on being a survivor 👍
Hope you and your wife get lots of trouble free miles out of it.

Great Pic’s @Keon👍👍👍
Maybe the media news, “expert” reviewers should have looked at this photo before they collectively panned the subjective appearance of the R231. I’m old enough to remember the same comments when the R129s came out. The difference was there was no internet, so everyone forgot…
And now, if you ask the media “influencers”, what their favorite SL is, many will say it’s the R129.
There are many instances of controversial avant-garde designs in architecture, art and design that the masses finally appreciated after it had aged. (like fine wine)
Remember that guy named Van Gogh? I think he never sold a painting either….

Strange how these things happen. I just got through surgery and treatment for cancer at the end of last year and turned 70 this year. So I bought an SL 550 for me and just me. It's a 2014 and it's white, like yours.

FWIW - I never chewed tobacco or smoked cigars, two of the primary causes of oral cancer. I did smoke cigarettes off and on in my late teens and early 20's, but never a heavy smoker, and I stopped completely by around age 25. While I do drink alcohol (another contributor to oral cancer), I'm not a heavy drinker. When I do drink, it's usually just a few glasses of wine or cocktails. So, the only explanation for my oral cancer is "bad genes".

Just picked this up yesterday
This is my wife and I’s first Mercedes, purchased for long trips, rallys, and weekend cruising.
2018 SL550. I have a huge grin on my face every time I walk away from it.

I know what you mean Joe! Every time I walk out to the garage and see my SL550, I can't help but smile and giggle to myself! These are such beautiful pieces of mobile art! Enjoy and happy road tripping!

Congrats on both the purchase and the cancer free milestone. I know how you feel about both. I had a 15 hour surgery 5 years ago this month (Aug 22) and have been cancer free for 5 years.
Enjoy both!
I've been wanting an SL for years, just never the right time until now. Purchased this 2014 SL550 in April of this year (2022) from the original selling and servicing dealer in Newport Beach, CA. Had it shipped out to me in Pennsylvania via "Horseless Carriage" covered auto carrier. Had 39,000 miles on it. Perfect CarFax. Mint condition. This was my reward to myself (with wife's whole hearted support) for surviving major 10+ hour cancer surgery in March, and now being cancer free! We both love the SL, and enjoy top down cruising whenever the weather here in Pennsylvania permits. I will at some point replace the run flat tires with non run flats to improve ride and handling. Only things I've done to it so far is put Mercedes Benz logo tire valve caps on (very small but nice detail upgrade), and reprogrammed the radio to add front/rear speaker balance control.

Moving over from E class W213 forum: (W212 before that, and W210 before that). Enough with the sedans already. I wanted something more personal, and this is it.

I'm half a something, that's for sure. All of the E class cars were black (man, don't they look good when they're clean), and I SWORE, "Never again"
Oh well, at least SL is a little smaller so it should be easier to care for.

^^^ I was about to post "what a beautiful car" and then I recognized that smile (a/k/a "$#i+-eating grin", lol). Do you garage it for the winter and drive the Silverado or do NC winters allow you to drive it year-round?

Yeah, I recently returned after having taken a break from the forums. Fortunately, here in southeastern NC, except for the very few days with highs of less than 45, I am able to drive the SL. So, no need for winter tires, etc. BTW, I am currently researching tires as I will soon want a new set due to the minor cupping that has recently occurred with these summer run-flats, with only 13.5k miles. Although the comfort level is only slightly diminished, the increase in noise is very noticeable. So, I am currently on the "Tire question (again)" tread, and I would certainly appreciate your opinion and any advice that you might offer. Thanks, Eddie!
