Is CPO extended warranty transferable?

Looking at a 2013 SL550 with 11,000 mikes on it. Clean CarFax, car looks mint.
It was sold new in Sept. 2013. Traded in with 8,400 miles to an MB dealer in March 2016. Dealer sold it as CPO. I assume, that at that point, the car got a warranty until Sept. 2018 or 100K miles. Does this sound right so far? The car was then traded in to an exotic used car dealer, which is where it is now. Assuming that the car has been properly serviced and maintained, would that CPO warranty transfer to me? Any help would be much appreciated.

No. The CPO warranty terminates anytime the car passes through a dealer, whether MB or not. In the case of this car you would receive the balance of the factory warranty, but the 1 year CPO warranty no longer exists. CPO can only be transferred via private party sales. I have never understood this rule.

Just to be clear, if I sell my CPO '13 to an individual, the extended unlimited mile warranty transfers to the new owner? Is there a transfer cost? Dealer I bought from did not volunteer this info.

I am buying a 2013 SL550 that is on consignment with a used car dealer. The car was sold as a CPO car by an MB dealer in March of this year. The used car dealer tells me that I am actually buying the car DIRECTLY from the second owner, NOT from the dealership and that based on that, the balance of the extended CPO warranty will go with the car. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. He also tells me, and I believe this may be the case, that these factory warranties follow the car, and that no "transfer" is needed. Hope it all works out.

You need to find the in service date as that is what starts the clock for the warranty

The factory warranty will follow you and you'll be able to purchase extended warranty directly from MB while active. I would recommend that.

The CPO warranty may not be usable for anyone else but the person that buys it from the dealer.
"May" because just recently they made the pre-paid maintenance plans transferrable which wasn't the case before, so it's worth checking into with MBUSA (dealer may not know or want to volunteer info as there is a financial incentive to sell you the extended warranty)

Good luck!

The CPO warranty is transferable. Here is a link to the statement on the MB website:http://mercedes-benz.custhelp.com/ap...i-transfer-the

That said, consignment sounds like a grey area to me. Per the above linked website, you need to show proof of private party purchase to a dealer to effect the warranty transfer. So I guess it depends on what documentation you can come up with.

Good to know on the CPO warranty. Only dealt with CPO warranty a while back and it was more limiting.
