I though the Premium Package was standard on the 550, and that that package has nothing to do with the grade of leather in the interior. Am I wrong about this?

The Standard Leather Seats are certainly a 'premium grade' of Leather just not quite as 'premium' as the optional at extra cost Nappa Leather, which is an even higher grade.
The Nappa Leather is considered to be the more comfortable MB Leather option. Additional 'stitched pleats' on the Nappa Leather also contribute to improved Leather seat flexibility and comfort.

So there are SL's out there that lack these features on the seats
Additional P1 options were:
Rearview Camera, Parktronic & parking assist, Keyless-Go, trunk closer with hands-free access
